Title: Slippin
Post by: t-dog on May 30, 2019, 10:51:01 pm
Well, wasn't gonna go this morning because I thought the weather was going to worse than it was last night. I got and tried to get Barbie to answer my texts but he wouldn't get out of bed. Finally I texted and told him to hurry and look out his window, that there were butterflies, rainbows and flowers just outside his window and dandelions blowing in the breeze. That did it, he jumped up. He met me and Slayde (my 9yr. old) here at the house and we load dogs. When we got to our spot, I saw where a big hog had crossed. I told him that had to be the hog I had been after. That I was 95+% sure that he was the one that killed my Kujay dog. We cast Raylynn, Lulu, and the 3 young dogs. Before we could unload the machine and vest the catch dogs, they were hammered down. He didn't want to  stay put and they didn't want him to leave. They would bay then silence. This must have happened 8 or 9 times in about 800 yard distance. We got up to them and they were bayed on the edge of a pond. Just as we were getting where we could see them he broke again. He was having to run and whirl and whirl. They were doing all they could to hold him without catching or getting caught. We unwrapped both catch dogs and he hauled butt. Went through a 5 wire barb wire fence that he was close to and not easily. About 150 yards later it was caught hog. Barbie took one trail and Slayde and I took another. It was a jungle, the trail didn't go far. Barbie gets there about 5 yards ahead of me and just embarrassed the heck out of his ancestors. He hollered, screamed, and carried on like he had ahold of big foot. I'm embarrassed to even tell it, but I have to tell the entire story so y'all can visualize. Anyway I get there and he has the hind legs up but can't throw it. I grab a front leg and over he goes. Before we can tie the first foot, the dogs are bayed again. We tie him and then go to the next bay. When we get back to load him he's gone. He broke the tree he was tied to and managed to get about 20 yards. I only tied the hinds and one front but he was still tied. We like to never have drug that sucker 20 feet and got him loaded and untied. We were all exhausted by the time we finished. Then he died in the trailer. Just my luck! We caught him slipping today though. He was in the same set of woods, same size track as the hog I've bayed twice before and didn't catch, and tried to leave the same route as before. This time though, he was ALONE. No other distractions. He was caught slipping! We wound up with 3 but he was the prize. The picture still doesn't do him justice.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190531/00c3ecc3d57c064dbd642876130a8edb.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190531/1ca2ab760d1f9ab37cff9170c2256db1.jpg)

I saw Kyle's (Barbies) post earlier today. That's a good one. You can tell Kyles a quarterback and not a linebacker!

Yeah I found him a pocket size butterfly net the other day. He's been on cloud 9 ever since

What a toad, that’s a good one fo sho...

I pick at my 6 year old all the time, his name is Talon and we he lets his nerves get in the way of doing something I’ll call him “talonrina” and ask him if he wants me to go get his aunts ballet slippers to wear, usually that’s all I have to say and I have to watch him bc before I know it, he’s attempting whatever I tasked him to do

That’s a heck of a hog T-dog. Don’t seem like I can pay to get around a big boar hog these days. We got one walking the road at the front of the ranch laying a hell of a track but every time we turn out where we think he’s at, nobody is home.

I hope Barbie doesn't read this. I'm sure ballet hasn't crossed his mind yet!

Keep trying slim, he'll make a mistake. When I lived in Palestine, it took me 3 years to catch one particular hog. They don't get big by being stupid.

It just boils down to ethics over pride. If I don't post again for a while it's probably because trying to forget and allow my pride to heal.

We didn't try to weigh him. We tied him a d put him in the trailer and by the time we got done he died on us. He stunk so bad we weren't going to mess with trying to eat him so we tied off to a tree and pulled him out of the trailer and left him.
