Title: 3/6/20 Hunt
Post by: Cajun on March 07, 2020, 08:47:44 am
Had a good Hunt yesterday with Peanut, Donald jr. His Dad and Mike the knife. Caught 3 nice boars and had to call it quits by 10:30 because the dogs all had injuries. Nothing serious except for Amber whose femur artery was nicked and it took a while to stop the bleeding. Real nice job, judging from the looks of those boars it doesn’t surprise me that your dogs took some damage.

Why do the hogs look funny?

In this area, they are mostly good russians but the saw grass has all their hair worn off. What you see is the wool undercoat. It makes them look like they are sheded out is that makes sense. These same hogs on drier ground are very hairy but that saw grass is hard on them..

Catchin them will always put dogs on injured reserve for sure.     Fine dog work to not get put to sleep by those of that caliber.

Austesus, When our dogs run thru it for very long it takes the hair off of their faces and legs. It's funny, they will shed off that wool by summer and grow a new coat. In early winter they really look good but by Jan. they are loosing their hair. Those same hogs on dry ground put on a super heavy coat of hair with that wool undercoat and keep it until they shed it for summer.

I've never been around any sawgrass and was gonna ask what was up with them, they look like they ran through a fire and were singed, haha thanks for the explanation.
