Hey guys I am new here and am not a hog dogger yet but I think I want to be one. I do however have some knowledge in breeding programs in relation to livestock and deer management and am interested in the subject. I am not going to be so bold as to state an opinion when there are so many here that are way more knowledgeable. I am just going to make a statement ask some questions and let the experts talk.
A few years ago I heard about some guys on a high fenced place that would shoot bird shot over the heads of deer while their antlers were still developing. Everywhere a pellet struck a point or kicker would grow resulting in deer that had antlers much larger than their genetics would have made them.
Would this experiment if it worked not be similar in that you would have dogs that had skills that were not in their genetics? Would this not lead to having to repeat the procedure with every new litter? Would this not add one more uncontrollable variable along the lines of recessive genes into your breeding program? Or would this process just be used as a culling / training tool?
