1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: got a new pup. on: February 12, 2014, 06:01:08 pm
I am very hesitant about letting any young pups be around grown dogs until I am well sure of what will happen. Don't won't the young pups confidence hurt by an older dog roughing them up/over-correcting them. Also want the dog to associate and focus on me and not another dog. IMOP.

Good looking pups. Always exciting to get the pups out to explore.

I fly in the USAF and this is something that alot of aviators go through. If it works on a person it may work on the dog. Dramamine/Ginger root didn't help - the only thing that did was to constantly keep flying and the body will adapt to it. Air movement and being able to see ie. if your dog box has a side that gets wind and allows the dog to look outside should help.

I think it is pretty simple. You don't like the dog don't buy it, if a breeder/kennel is offended by that who cares, as you (the buyer) will be feeding it.

As for the rest - the poster came one here not mentioning any names, kennels or people and asked a question in the most respectable way possible so as not to offend anyone.
5  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Which bulldog pup would you prefer?#1 or #2 on: January 28, 2014, 03:14:45 am
I prefer the pup that is biting everything and generally the pest. That energy seems to transfer well into whatever work I want them to do. That is for a working dog, for a family/kid pet then I go with the more laid back independent dog. Have owned both types of pups and prefer #1.

Tyson 10lb chicken quarters and raw eggs. Sometimes hamburger or deer.

I have seen stuff similar to this before when training service dogs. Feeding off the Handler is spot on - had a young female malinoise puppy that was showing the goods to be a superstar LEO K-9. Doing solid bites, tracking good and good odor detection. It was decided that she would go to an older Woman to work for a while - figuring the dog was on the fast track and all the person had to do was hold the leash. After about 2 months we switched handlers on the dog - as she was feeding of the vibe/personality/insecurities etc of the woman and it was apparent that it would affect her working ability.

Have a 13yr old WEB from Jeff Clark. Never showed him a hog - wasn't working hogs at the time - but I am confident he would have made a catchdog. To old to try it now, but am working hogs with two pups from Tico at JUB. Haven't spoken to Mr. Clark in about 8-10yrs or seen his current lineup - not sure if he is breeding but I enjoyed talking to him and visiting his yard.

Tico at Jam Up Bulldog Kennels also has some solid bulldogs bred to work hogs.
10  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Prefered method to start CD on: December 14, 2013, 01:27:59 am
Everyone has their preference for what they want in a CD. How do most go about training/cultivating an ideal CD? how many in the pen before the woods? age?

I've heard let them catch an easy to handle smaller pig -45lbs at 6 months, 9 months - 70lbs and then once more at 1yr-100lber - then off to the woods.

Just want others input on how they best develop an ideal CD.

Looks like normal behavior from a good pup, with both playing well together. What does he want the pup to do, run and hide?
