excellent topic. Many of the things listed here are exactly what keeps me from having my own pack of dogs. I have a couple of buddies that I hunt with some and I love the sport. But I KNOW that I don't have the time to really put in the training and upkeep with dogs. I am a football coach and that takes up a lot of my time. One of these days that may change but for now I would like to think I'm smart enough to stay out of putting together my own hunting outfit. I see people every day try it and do it WAYYYYYY wrong. I feel most for the dogs that suffer because of it.

that's what I was afraid of. I was hoping for cur framed hounds that might have a little colder nose. Probably way too much hound dna and bloodhounds are notoriously big and slow. Not really traits you want in a hog dog. May try it once anyway just for grins and giggles. you never know ......

Kinda what i thought, My bloodhound male is 120 pounds easy and I figured that his DNA would produce some jumbo sized dogs. Not sure if a cur could even carry for him. Might have to go male cur female BH.

I have a bloodhound that is a pretty salty blood dog. took a bad shot nearly a mile last season and bayed it twice before the deer finally gave up. I've been very pleased with him. AND he's done most of it naturally, I have only worked him a little bit. Go's to show that it's hard to beat natural talent.

Some people are just sorry. I had a buddy with a mountain cur that was by far the best blood dog I've ever seen. Had the guy that owns the Dos Hermanos ranch offer him $10,000 for him and he turned it down. Long story short, the dog was trailing a wounded buck for a guy, jumped a property line and a guy shot and killed him. It ought to be legal for you to shoot back in that situation. I mean a freakin blood dog with an Astro on. I wasn't like some stray wondering the woods messing up everything. That dog was working and the guy knew it. I probably would have gone to jail that day if I was the owner.

been reading this site for about a week. Finally decided to sign up. Looks like there are a lot of folks here who know how to lay the smack down on some pigs! I'm a big deer hunter and bass fisherman but I started getting into hog hunting last year by necessity when hogs took over our deer lease. I'm now addicted to it and am thinking seriously about starting my own pack of dogs. Anyways, just sayin hello!
BTW I'm from South Arkansas but looks like you East Texas and Okie boys have it goin on!
