Will have some full blooded mountain cur pups ready in about 8 weeks. Sire is a short range and fast dog. Use him as a running catch dog and can hold with the best of them. Has a great winding nose. Will road hunt. Should be a rough cross. Located in southeast Missouri and both parents on site. Asking $100 a pup. Have videos and pictures of the sire at work. 573-210-6497. Chad

I'm asking if it has ever had a ban. Getting worried here in Missouri and was wondering how it effected the state if it did have one. What are you seeing in Tennessee since the ban.

Has Texas ever tried a ban on hog hunting. Have heard it did but can't find anything to support this.

We ain't no longer allowed to hunt state land but national forest is fair game. I have 4 mtn cur. 2 of which are old stock and all catch. Short range winding dogs. I don't run a bull dog. Everything is caught with curs. Is there a rough line of BMCs and if so how hard are they to get ahold of. I have a Carnathan bred or Bruno bred (confused on that ordeal) which is supposed to be suicidal but as of yet is definitely not.

National forest covers much of the southern part of the state. More public land than you can imagine. Mainly all Russian hogs. I have lots of pics. The bay's in the big open hardwoods are spectacular and pine groves. When you hit the clearcuts and swamps things get sketchy. Some prairie hunting but usually is only good in spring. I enjoy hearing about the Ben Jordan bred dogs, I also have old stock mtn cur. Rougher and shorter range.

I have heard that name. I'm in the southeast in the Ozarks. All we kill is Russian. Never even a hamp or spotted once. Have a good friend in the western part of the state that kills some Hamps and spotted hogs. I guess maybe I was wrong about the generation thing lol. I do know we are covered in hogs and getting to be more hunters starting and quitting. Until conservation traps every pig like they say. That is interesting about dean volt. Maybe being around table rock I assumed he was from Arkansas

Bigo...I have heard the same stories and can believe it. My Jordan dog will go and go and go. Never quits a hog. Would love to hear some old stories. Sadly in my neck of the woods we will be the old timers one day as we are the first generation hoggers in the show me state. Would love to find a Jordan bitch but havnt been successful.

I have a Ben Jordan male. Honestly my best dog. Was almost a cull until around 2 years old. It's like a light switch went off. Great nose, loose baying by himself, more bottom than I like sometimes but he's a true hog dog.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Looks like Alabama is gonna poison hogs soon

Missouri the same way. Meetings tell landowners how diseased hogs are but the only animal testing positive for diseases is white tails which the CWD is primarily in the northern part of the state. Hogs are in the southern half. Or else hogs would get the blame. Don't want to see the poison being used. USDA said in meetings if they can eliminate hunting then they could effectively trap every hog in the state. Then later in the meeting would say for the pigs that got trap shy they will go in and shoot over bait piles. 3 contradictions in the meeting. Trap every hog then hunt trap shy hogs but hunting isn't effective but they use bait piles which CWD is blamed on bait piles. I couldn't keep up with the BS.

Hunt here in Missouri. Hilly, rocky terrain with big open forests mixed with clear cuts. Hunt mainly rough short range mtn curs along with BMCs a couple will range out good. A good hog population trumped mainly by pure Russian/ euro boars. Have never caught a striped or spotted hog.

I run mountain curs and BMC. Here in the Ozarks close range is crucial. With that being said I have some old stock mtn cur that are short range and will catch anything. I have a BMC that will range out along with a "modern" bred mtn cur but they will stick with a pig for miles. We don't run a catch dog and havnt found a pig the mtn cuts can't hold but if they don't stick together it could be a long race. You can never garauntee you will stay within a certain property.

Had two litter mates before, both gyps. Raised from pups and wouldn't let me catch em for nothing. Tried this, that, and everything else. When I did get my hands on them they would piss themselves. Ended up culled. It was hard because I was just starting out and I wanted every dog I had to turn out. I've learned that a good dog is hard to come by. Hopefully you can figure her out.

I'm not saying that once you start hunting it's all on the big dogs to teach them everything. I do have a dog that for some reason all the pups want to run with and its seemed to work out.

I keep em in a pen on full feed for about six months then I chain em ussually. I let em out to play and such. I don't mess with em a lot except to get em used to a lead and their name, to come when called. If you got dogs already going just take the pups and they'll either have it or they won't. I ussually start em in the woods around 8 or 9 months. Try to set em up for success.
