1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Bulldog x cur on: January 20, 2025, 09:43:29 am
I have a 1/2 breed here that’s around 15. When me and my fiancée got together I always picked at him about hunting a bulldog cross. But that sucker would slap cast a mile if needed and go get bayed. Only time he would get rough is when a hog broke on him several times. Chances are they may not be suicidal!

Cajun I learned that the hard way long time ago one of my dogs was hurting every hunt and I would be complaining because I wanted to take her every time got to where she would be hopping 10 min in. My wife told me when you ever going to learn to rest them dogs when they need it stop being selfish being the hard head I am I did finally that put her up for a good while and it never came back. Hard to heal when your still on it

This has been like this since I got him. Out of some of my dogs but I didn’t raise him. He’s been off since September. Hunted him once then probably was August when I hunted him before that.

If you want to save the dog for hunting, lay him up for several months and give him a chance to heal. Continued hunting on a injured joint will only make it worse.
He’s been laid up since September. I got him at 11-12 months old. Been that way since the day I started him. Honestly hasn’t been pushed enough for anything to have had happened to him.

You can rub DMSO from his paws up just past his ankle joint before hunting and after the hunt…it should help the swelling and minimize or stop the joint pain…DMSO will absorb thru the skin including yours if not using rubber gloves…DMSO has many uses, I use it on a regular basis and it works better than any prescription I’ve used for pain…
I thought about that or bigeloil but wasn’t sure how good it would do him.

Any remedies for joints? One of my favorite young dogs is lame after every hunt. His front ankle joints swell after every hunt. Going to start him on glucosamine tomorrow but was hoping there was something else I could give him to help. Legging him up doesn’t help.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely carry a back up.

Has Garmin acknowledged the problem?

I will be using TT-15, are there problems using the TT-15 with the 300?
They are claiming nothing is wrong but anyone that uses a handheld enough can tell other wise.  I wanted it to work I really liked mine. But I can’t be using something I can’t trust.

you better have a back up!
Several are having the same problems. I work on Garmin products for a living. The 300 and the 25’s was a bigger disappointment than the X’s!
Mine started out great. Then couldn’t track past .60 then it started dropping about 700 then it got to where you’d have to turn the thing off to a back on to even find the dogs.
My dad’s drops them at 100-200 constantly. An sure doesn’t track them out like my 100’s.

The 25’s same thing on several different handhelds. They are so sensitive to everything. Liked to have got my bulldog killed cause it dropped at 100 yds and they broke with the bay.

I’m glad this subject was about dogs. I at first thought you might be addressing me directly about my kids and all I could’ve told you was it came from their momma’s side!

12  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Perineal Urethrostomy/ cut urethra on: July 26, 2024, 12:52:45 pm
I had a stud dog about 10 years ago have both testes torn our of his scrotum.  Managed to clean them up and put them back in.  I stapled the wound shut so it could weep and kept him on antibiotics for a month.  He managed to sie 17 pups after that.  Regarding the urethra, if he can pee, he can ejaculate one would assume.  So the question is can he still produce viable semen.  Assuming he can the only issue you might run into would be if the cut urethra gave him urinary incontinence.  If it has it would be fruitless trying to collect.
The vet said he would try to collect him but was skeptical in case it got the nerves. Everything works fine it actually freaks people out lol! Where the tusk entered it reamed up the leg so they didn’t castrate him like they typically do.
They was concerned with uninary infections but so far none has happened. He’s been hit in the testies twice so I’m curious of how fertile he is. Next gyp I have come in that I would like to cross I am going to try it! Nothing to loose if we are being honest.

They was on Facebook saying how innocent they was but then turned around and said “snitches get stitches”. IMO an innocent person isn’t going to throw that around.

Anyone ever successfully collected a dog that’s had his urethra cut? My salty dog had his cut a year ago on a big barr. He got a nick in the sack but didn’t look as it got the actual testie. My Vet said he would try to collect him for me if I wanted him to but no promises. Just curious if anyone has been thru this? I’ve seen some research reports out of Brazil that supposedly had some success.

Yup! I have a 1/2 cur 1/2 pit here that was an excellent dog. His running buddy got killed and he quit after it. You couldn’t beg him to hunt after it. We retired him after that as he was already an old dog. Crazy but it happens.
