1  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Rehome-started BMC/sighthound on: November 29, 2017, 07:07:36 pm
I’m looking to rehome a 6yo nuetered male who appears to a BMC/sighthound mix. He hunts by sight and scent, has had two weeks full time training on hogs with an experienced professional hog hunter of many years. After that he spent the next few months working once a week on hogs in the bay pen with the same trainer. He has done some hog scent trailing and picked it up like a charm.

When he works hogs he is silent and extremely focused until he flushed them, them will size them up and bay the bigs one or catch on the smaller ones.  Once he catches he is as tenacious as a pit.

He started off as a pet and ended up with me out of a rescue that deals with challenging dogs. He is Utterly obsessed with tracking and hunting hogs so although has had a lot of obedience is still best as a hunting dog.

Great with kids and family, will nip strangers on property but friendly off property. No cats but good w chickens and other dogs.

Ok with a trial to make sure his new home is a good match. Text for pics. Austin area. 512-466-7702

How are they bred Artem?

Unknown-they were both shelter dogs.

The black appears to be mostly pit/catahoula-he has grey merle spots on his legs and his sister in the same pen had blue and green eyes.  He bays a bit, will trail by scent and sight, and catches and wont let go for anything.

The yellow appears to be part BMC and maybe some sorta sighthound? He is real tall and leggy, runs like crazy, bays, will hunt by scent and sight and also will catch and not let go for anything-he does tend to favor a hamstring on small hogs.  He is the reason I started hog hunting, as he had a lot of negative behaviors and exceptional prey drive, endless energy, so needed a job.

They have only been on hogs for two months in an 8 acre bay pen so far -the trainer says they are doing real well and he's proud of them.   Im  working on teaching them to follow scent trails in the woods at home and trash breaking right now so I can hunt with them for real.  They are so cool to watch hunt together.

5  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / catch dogs and brucelliosis on: June 01, 2017, 12:32:18 pm
Hi, new to hog hunting and my dogs are in training now.

Ive been reading about how to avoid brucelliosis when cleaning the hog, but do you guys do anything in particular with your catch dogs to reduce the risk of them getting ill?
