1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Malinois CD on: August 11, 2022, 05:52:58 pm
I had an Airedale that supposidly tore his ACL...The vet specialized in ACL surgery and he  manipulated it, said it was torn and wanted to do surgery,  I took the dog to another vet who checked him and said to hold off a little while, in 3 weeks dog was  100% healed and never had any more  problems. I did some research and found that it's hard to diagnose accurately.  It might be a misdiagnosis and he might heal with a lttle rest....

Yeah he’s a wanta be.  He doesn’t hunt much and when he does it’s 90% trespassing. One of those that if he can get in on 5 acres then he hunts everything around it. Exactly the case here. It doesn’t make sense to me why people are this way but lots of things in this crazier by the day world we live in don’t make sense to me. I think he just happened to be in the place next to us when we were hunting. I don’t think he was hunting more likely baiting hogs. That little place doesn’t hold hogs much. In all the years I’ve hunted down there I think we bayed a hog in there 2-3 times and they ran in there they weren’t bedding there nor did they stay there. I know the family that owns it. They are good people. I’m gonna do my best to that he doesn’t get back in there for starters.

Very impresive ....Any dog that can kill a coyote or javelina singlehandidly is a freak...What are his bloodlines,  Sandhill, Mooreland ?
5  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Garmin Repair on: June 25, 2022, 10:14:44 am
I’ve got 4 collars that need new GPS receivers. I want to replace Garmin’s factory rubber straps with the heavy duty nylon ones.  I would attempt it, but don’t truck myself to Sadler it back together.  Y’all know anyone who does this?

There's a guy in Phoenix who repaired my Garmin..

Maybe there is a deeper issue, does it seem like it causes him pain when you mess with them? Is it only when there’s something causing him pain or when he’s fine too? That’d be a tough one to work around but I’ve had a couple that would get aggressive when it came to stapling them or when they were hurt.

No. he's just never liked anyone messing with his feet or ears, it took a couple years but he's good about his feet but if I'm trying to  doctor his ears or face area he rapidly builds anxiety and it becomes snapping and trying to escape if I continue....He's weird in other ways also...

The Eli/Chinaman dogs used to throw occasional maneaters...

Maybe I didn't elaborate enough...The dog only gets chitty when I try to doctor his face area, I can handle or touch the face area otherwise with no problems. When he was a tiny pup he growled at me once when eating,  I smacked him,  picked up his bowl and he never did it again. I can pick up hs bowl while he's eating no problem.  The other day there was another dog standing next to him and  for some reason I picked up his bowl, yelled at him and he retreated 3-4 feet and breifly bared his teeth, no growiling.  He's very possesive about food or bones around other dogs. He minds very well in every other way...

Thanks everyone for the advice and input....

Can you give him a hard correction or does he get growly at a certain point?

I've never whipped him, a slap on the head is the most I've had to do.  The only time He acts up is if I'm trying to doctor his face area, the other day I chased him off his food bowl and he backed up and bared his teeth at me (twice)..He minds good, is very affectionate, it's just that if he feels threatened he changes into a  jerk. If I tried to hold his collar and give him a whipping I'm sure he would try to bite me.

Another time I tried to remove cactus from his mouth area I fastened the leash to a tree, got out my Leatherman and  when I tried to grab the cactus he started biting the Leatherman, I got mad and yelled at him, he took a step backward and started snarling/growling and showing his teeth at me, like a Jekyl and Hyde.....Really surprised me.
12  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / What do you think? on: June 15, 2022, 10:18:51 am
I have a question for the BMC guys....I have a Ladner BMC who I'm pretty happy with except for one thing, this dog will not let me mess with his muzzle or ears if I'm trying to doctor him, won't let me pull cactus out of his lips or muzzle/nose or clean ears etc.  He will bite me if I try too hard.  I snap his collar to a chain link fence to restrain him but he goes apenumber 2 and I can't do much.   I started handling his ears face etc. when he was 7 weeks old and he's always been this way. Is this unusual with this breed?   Thanks..Mike B
13  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: You culling SOBs on: March 19, 2022, 09:48:10 am
To "cull" simply means to remove from the breeding program...It doesn't mean you have to kill the dog....
Some guys just don't give a crap about the dogs, they veiw them as "tools".
and I stand by my original analysis of you...
14  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Breaking them off Javelina... on: February 06, 2022, 07:31:33 am
Do you guy's have any problems breaking them off Javelina?  Can the dogs readily tell the difference?  I've had a dog get seriously cut from the damn things..

16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Young BMC in Trap.. on: November 22, 2021, 02:36:47 pm
Hmm...Never thought of it that way...He hasn't shown much grit but he's never been hurt either so maybe  I learned something.
17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Young BMC in Trap.. on: November 22, 2021, 12:42:59 pm
I got him out of the trap..My question is do you think he reacted in a normal way or was this extreme?   He was in full attack mode on me, chasing me around and biting me...
How do your dogs react when caught in leghold traps?
18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Young BMC in Trap.. on: November 22, 2021, 11:18:24 am
I've had dogs caught in traps before but this seemed unusual, I heard him screaming and  got there quick, threw my jacket over his head and tried to get it off, he's not just trying to bite me, he's trying to full on attack me...I lost my grip and he chased me to the end of the chain, jumped up and bit my arm, several times he chased me trying to bite me, it's like he forgot who I am...What do you guys think?
19  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Strange Sores on: October 31, 2021, 08:06:03 am
My cur got the same sores on back legs when feeding Diamond Extreme Athlete, what are you feeding?
20  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: T-Dog on: July 26, 2020, 08:25:07 am
My dogs always start crapping when we start hunting...First poop solid and the next 2-3 wet. The dogs are excited and their systems are sped up..It's normal.
