I still read the board about everyday but dont post much. I think FB had changed the game on posting pics..etc bc it is so easy to upload pics through a app off your phone. It was a process for me to get a pic and story through any forum. It also seems to me alot of the same topics just rotate through the years. I like reading topics on how people here do everyday things like spray fence rows/cows/dog pens..etc. I also always search here anytime I have something come up with my dogs that I dont know or want to get different views or ideas on....Has always been a great forum.

If mine cross a fence I follow them what do y'all say!
Quotes like this on a public forum is the reason I feel like I spend more time defending our reputation and keeping property then I actually get to run.....Doggers have a certain sterotype and the ol timers also have a sterotype of certain groups of kids that run around town dog boxes loaded down.....I will just leave it at that..

HOG & DOGS / HOG HUNTING CONTESTS / TDHA tournament ?

Has there been any talks on how the stringer will be setup this year? Dead or alive? i know it seems like a long ways away but it will be here before u know it. I'm either going to hunt or volunteer depending on if I think I actually have a shot to compete...my vote is 3 hog stringer... It would be a very close and exciting weigh in....u would make up for hogs on more teams entering and actually weighing in...

I hate to hear this and the hope the charges stick. Saying that the dog owner has no one to blaim but himself..running dogs during deer season is a big risk and that's something you take a chance on. Not saying I don't run during deer season but i do it mostly at night or during the week on places where I know there is no one around deer hunting. I also will mainly just use short range dogs if I think there is a chance dogs will go somewhere they shouldn't. I don't know the story and this could happen to anyone. if it happened to me I would def press charges but also know in my mind it was my fault.. I just get tired of always defending our sport from people who have no sense and hunt public land or small places during the prime deer hunting season when they know who's out....

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Alpha reviews
|
on: December 12, 2013, 03:53:32 pm

I have looking at getting the alpha and wanted to get an up to date review if anyone who uses them can give me the pros and cons. I have been reading past post on here but couldnt find anything recent. I have the garmin 220 and works good but like the all in one collar on the alpha.
A few questions and any info u can add Range on collars? Collars easy to charge and can u charge reciever to? Is the receiver user friendly and durable? Do collar lights work? Instead of socking can the collars also make a sound or is that just the receiver set at a certain distance on dog? Confused on that on from reading info.
Thanks for the help.

HOG & DOGS / HOG HUNTING CONTESTS / Re: What's the Super Bowl of the Hog Tournaments?

I do think the barr issue needs to be addressed and I like how the Randy Bumpers tournament took a percentage off. The fact of the matter is anytime a dog gets shot or laws come up against us as dog hunters who do we turn to? Not any tournament that I know of uses money made to put in that pot beside the TDHA. Yes TDHA may not have all the buckles and prizes as others but that money is put into fighting for us. TDHA still has a great payout and lots of prizes. As far as the best of the best and a 10 hog stringer. Since TDHA is more of a state wide tournament I don't think as many people would enter because they don't have the spots to produce that kind of a stringer. That has nothing to do with dogs. Now does that mean its weaker tourny?? No...They could do a 10 stringer but would also need to keep the 4 separate. From a fundraiser prospective you don't want to make the stringer so crazy that fewer teams turn out. You have to find that medium ground and like T Shelly said TDHA def needs to figure out a way for barrs to be allowed so we don't loose those teams... I have a feeling that with all these different tournaments doing different things TDHA will take a little of each and will continue to be biggest hog dog tournament in the nation...Just my thoughts..
