When talking of a calf with scours "he could $hit through a screen and not hang on a wire"
"gonna rain like a cow pissin on a flat rock" or "fixin to come a turd floater"
"harder to find than a diamond in a goats a$$"

Here's my two cents. Pits make poor protection dogs due to centuries of culling man biters. A dog who would bite a human in the box was not tolerated. With that said, pits do great with protection SPORTS because of their desire to work and please their owner. I do Schutzhund work with both of my pits, but they are not good guard dogs.
Why would you want to force a dog to do something that he's not designed to do? Especially when you could select a breed that was designed to do protection work (shepherd, malinouis, Rottweiler, Doberman, etc..).
Plus, we r only one accident away from Breed Specific legislation and that would effect us all! If your only in it for sport then go ahead, but if you feel the need for a serious protection dog I'd suggest another breed. JMHO.

Long story short, when I graduated high school the seniors got out on Wednesday to do graduation rehearsal. The sophomores and juniors still had class Thursday and Friday.
The school I went to had a big open air court yard in the center. Wednesday night A bunch of friends and I loaded up a pickup bed with horse crap. We drove across the football field and hid the truck behind a portable building. We then proceeded to hoist guys and the bags of crap onto the roof. We then spread the manure all over the courtyard along with a huge sign that said, "we took your $hit for four years here's ours!"

I'm actually looking for a hangin tree cowdog. Just curious if y'all thought a cur could do the same work. It would be nice to find a breed that could work the way I need (sort pens, load cattle, etc...) and do some hunting on the weekends. May just need to convince the wife that I need more dogs lol.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Cur question

Please don't chew me up for this, but all the talk about working cows has me wondering. Has anyone ever had or seen a cur that was trained like a border collie? How do yall think a cur would do with directional commands and driving? I know this is not how curs typically work, but what do ya think?

I'd try her on hogs. One of my catch dogs didn't show any interest in pigs until she was three and she turned out awesome.

I'd give her some time and try her again. Give her some time with your pack and try working her with them. She may work, she may not. I wouldn't breed her without working her IMHO. If she is a cull, she could pass negative traits to the pups.

Why cull the non leapord pups? If you just don't want em I'll take one (maybee two). I like the cur cat cross regardless of color.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Looking for a hunting partner!

I recently moved back to west texas and I'm looking for someone to hunt with. I'm located half way between Lubbock and Midland, hog doggers out here are few and far between! I'm trying to get some dogs together, but I need someone to show me how to get em caught here in the desert. I'm willing to help any way I can (dog food, gas, cold beer, etc...). Anybody out here looking for someone to run with?

Waylon, What cue lines would you recommend for dogs that can do both? Also, when you work cattle with your curs do you just use them to bay, or do you also use them to drive and bring cattle to you? I guess my question is, how much handle do you want in a dual purpose dog?
