it sure is real dry it hasnt rained in over a year i have two tanks that are 18 feet deep and there is only 2 foot of water left lately its been real windy out there becuase of the drought but hagen(plot/cat) hes got a real good nose for dry weather and winds real good boy on the other hand he likes to wind the hogs better
oh ya thats pretty cool well id have to say you know ive been bare foot on the ranch plenty times and no matter were your at out there your going to get plenty of cactus and mesquit thorns ya i did have some shoes on its easir on my blown out knee.
i got some of my buddies from school to come help me out this weekend down on the ranch. i havent been huntin in the past two weeks because blew ot my knee. Anyways we were down on the the bonanza ranch this mornin with my two buddies Schumann and d-ram. we took thr dogs(boy, hagen, shooter, max) out we made couple of runs the dogs were workin great we got on a few pigs but we could never get them stopped after the last run the dogs were lookin pretty tired hagen had run at least 4 miles on the gps so i called a mornin. about three hundred yards from camp all of the sudden hagen opens up in the bed of the truck first time so i backed the truck up about fifty yards when heagen opened up again and off went hagen boy and max we were comin up onto the bay 300 hundred yards later when a hog crosses the road right in front of me well buddies tell me that they herd max catch about hundred yards down the road were the bay was . than you could hear the boar so i told schumann to let shooter off the lead while buddies are haulin tale to the catch i see that boy has rolled out when shooter got there on the gps and is trailin the hog that crossed the truck. well at the catch d-ram has made his first stick on a 90 lb pig. later i see that boy trailed the hog for about 500 yards before he was worn out and came back to the original bay. it was a fun hunt with some newbies that helped out was a little worried if they were up for the hunt but the they came throughand i appreciate there help. soory about not having any action picks because of me the gimp couldnt get there in time.
sorry about that, about not have any pics of the scale, i cut the head off so i could drag it back to camp, and wieghed the head and the body seperate, didnt think it would be appropriate to have a picture with a hog hangin with out his head and ive been told not to post that. Anyway keep argueing about the waight funny to read about it im keeping the wieght at 318#
Not to get in a argument here, but i think its alot to do with the territory. A hog knows the territory way better than a dog knows, from exsperience hunting down in Encinal Texas and how thick it is down there, most of the time a hog will outrun a dog in thick brush even if it does leave a trail behind. After eight hundred or so yards or more my dogs are covered in cactus and they still have the drive to hunt. I think if a hog gets away he knows what hes in for, or hes been run before or has a little russian in him. But i think if you get one thats been a fight thats big enough hes not going to run hes going to stay in his territory. Thats my knowledge huntin down south, central, and north. Anyway even a monster pig thats never seen dogs will run what i encountered hunting up north with c-white.
im just glad my pack is finally gettin older and not messin around you can see i didnt run my blue lacy that night. your dogs might be thick but they work like they get run every day
Was down south this weekend with my pack of dogs. We went out saturday night arounnd ten. i droopped them off around a night feeder two hundred yards. Soon is i let the dogs they were off heagan opens up and they got on a runner. they ran for a good eight hundred yards before they lost him. so i loaded them up and took them to one spot before heading back to camp it was reading 90 degrees at 10:30. So we went to the tank it took them three minutes once hitting the ground. than i hear my big cat Boy open up followed by heagen. 5 seconds later i hear my RCD max hit the boar. the grunting started so i let shooter go he hits and im right behind him when i come across the biggest pig ive seen in real life. so i tried to leg him but he was so wet and muddy that he slipped and off he ran with four dogs on his back so i caught up with them twenty yards later instead of leggin him i decided to bear hug him. he ran another 5 to ten yards before i tripped him and than i went to seal the deal. boy did i have fun on this hunt i couldnt for anything more from my pack on how they performed. one day i might regret hunting by myself i might caught up in a bind but its to much fun and i love the addrenaline rush. sorry i didnt have any action picks thats what happens when you hunt alot by yourself.
