Ok it is starting to get on my nerves. A rcd means running CATCH dog. If it bays it is NOT a rcd it is a gritty to rough dog.
Man yall read my mind glad to see someone jumped on that!!!! Should do all of em that way.....

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / range?

I know this topic has been beat to death probably but i wanna c more recent thoughts. This is how i consider a dogs huntn range and wish everyone else would too gets kinda aggravating esp if ur tryn to buy a started dog. I will start off sayn what my one and only strike dog at this time is. she is very short ranged to me which to me means if we r just riding or walkn around for the most part she stays within sight 100yrds or less. Now when she winds one or gets on a track she is gone however far it is to the hog unless she is unable to work it out. I think some ppl esp tryn to sell dogs refer to this as their "hunting range" . , which to me is not. I dnt wanna hear a dogs range refered to as when they are on a track or how far they go with another dog. I wanna know how said dog hunts on its own and their range is how far they run around checking for sign "not when they are on it" ! Does anyone else feel this way?

Good thread! Lol hound vs currs i like half and half silent dogs also and have had a couple good uns but my best dog right now is full bmc my buddys is half plott half bmc and it goes both ways just when u think his has the colder nose is when she will show him out. I have had a couple plott hounds and did not work for me all that barkn on what looks like a 2 day old track and like said earlier seems like it took them forever to line it out. That being said i know there r good ones out there just as there are currs so dnt get me wrong not knocking hounds one bit just not my style. Now if i had one that burnt a track down like my bmc does and get to hogs quicker id b all for it. But dnt really care for open on track either. To each his own

Im 36 and grew up splitting wood the old fashion way up until a couple yrs back my father n law wanted a cord and brought his portable hydraulic splitter down. He operated it while i brought the wood to it. We split 3.5 cords n less. Than a day with several long breaks. Man i tell ya i havent touched an axe since!!! Where had that been all my life? Lol

Now I couldn't say ether way but I seen my dog hit a track and go 5 miles and never stop and when he did he was bayed up. Now you can look at a track and tell if it's old or fresh but I took a young guy hunting with me one time there was some good sign all around dogs got out but never got on any the young guy turns and tells me hey these tracks are 18 hrs old I should go get my other dog he will run this track I said hey that's cool but how do you know that track is 18 hrs old did the hog drop his watch lol some people I just don't understand
lmfao. Now thats funny. Yep ive never got the art of timing a track down. Easy to tell fresh ones and again depending on soil conditions. Good one judge

Kinda off subject but just made me think. How do yall go about telling or shuld i say proving just how cold ur dogs nose is? I have had the same lead dog for almst 4yrs now. Bmc gyp and still couldnt tell u exactly just give my best guess. There have been times i culd swear that she put a pig on the end of a day old track but then again i didnt jot down all conditions and dnt have a very good memory. I would just b guessing but my guess would b around a 4-6hr nose for the most part and again totally depending on conditions. Sorry for getting off subject just curiousity getting the best of me

Man i have bad luck with some about like everyone else on here im sure. But my thnkn is i usually find em on here or local ppl giving them away. Ive never paid much of anything if i had to for em usually too many ppl just tryn to give them away. But i take one put him/her on a pig n pen and see if they naturally go for the head area. They usually always end up on ear unless really small hog. If they do not i dnt even give em a second chance. Now the next part is getn them to learn what a bay is. Its a lil harder now days because hogs break soo much. I used to just walk em n and when they seen the hog they would go catch and usually go to the next bay after that. Or if they would go behind a cd already going to bays and catch. Its not really much to it to get a pit started if he/she loves a hog. Now if they r dog aggresive a lil shock therapy should work if not... gone! Ive been lucky not to run into any ppl aggresive pits. Now the hard part to me with these free pits usually with one thats rather hyper is putn a good handle on em. I cant stand yapping on the bike or pulln me thru the woods. With a lil time a good switch or shock therapy works for this too. I would suggest just going thru some and find what works for u or if uve run out of patience and want to drop some change make the person show u the dog catch in the woods first! If i were to ever sell a cd i wouldnt mind doing that. Just wanted to share short version of some of my cd exp or 2cents

I havent had the prob n yrs where i live now but i thnk its mostly due to cats they r always killing them suckers. But where i grew up we had a big pond close to house that stayed full of them durn cottonmouths and we always had dogs swolle up with snake bites and never gave them anythng and never lost a one to them. They would stay swolle for 2-4 days and then it would slowly go away.
