Old man. That is good range. I would love to get half of that here.
In this flat country, With a handheld it is a struggle to consistently get 500-800 yds. I have a garmin that I keep on the truck/buggy with the long range antenna and I have only gotten 2 miles once or twice. typically 1.6-1.8 you start loosing comm on them. In Tn you get easily get 10 miles easily across the mountains with just a handheld.
About the only elevation change here is stand in a hog waller or step up on a tree stump!

Been getting after it a good bit this month. Been having some good hunts Last years addition (leopard hound/plott) is getting up in age where I can start hauling her some. She is going out and staying with the older dogs and seems to like it. Got pretty good hope for how young. Not a lot of pics just your regular run of the mill hogs. Puppy Pic Sunday we braved the Cold weather, for us beach bums in Fl. It was mid 20s that morning and stayed in the 40s with about 20-30mph gusts. Loading the dogs up with a russian fur trapper hat,2 jackets and gloves, I was really second guessing that decision. But stayed in hogs all day and ended up with a trailer load and worked just as many smaller hogs. Good dog work all around and didnt have to swim for any or worry about the gators.

Seen it a good bit. Had a friend that lost one a couple years back the same way. A hefty dose fo Garlic (drops blood pressure) and keep it lubed and it will usually go back in. If you catch it early. When it stays out, it dries out and then wont go back in without surgery. Glad yours made it and could be saved.
That said, some of the best male dogs ive seen hunt, had been fixed. I usually fix all my catchdogs. The one I have now is nuetered. Takes a lot of the B.S. out of the knuckleheads and puts it all on catching game! lol

Spent the last week hunting from North Florida to South of Lake Okeechobee. Hunted north Fl near the Ga line Monday and Tuesday. Drove 3 hours south and hunted Central Florida Wednesday and Thursday, Then drove another 3 hours and hunted Friday and Saturday in South Florida. Nice cool weather all week. A few mornings in the 20’s. Dogs did good and loaded a couple trailer full of hogs. A couple decent boars, but mostly run of the mill stuff. Dogs did good all over in multiple terrains. I think the hogs, dogs and people are all ready for a break! My pics suck as always, A world class Photographer I am not. Thanks for Looking Lynel

Good stuff coming here. I have never had the same same luck on a 2nd cross of the same dogs as the first. It has baffled me for years. But I dont breed a lot and when I do the dogs are usually pretty older by the second cross. that may make a difference.
I am right with you Cajun....if a dog cant do it solo, I dont have a use for it. To me that is where the bar is set.

Yall talking about great dogs over here.....and Im just trying to get a good one?! In all honesty. Ive had some very, very, very good dogs. BUT Ive yet to have my great dog. The closest thing I had got crippled up young. Still was a very very good dog. That said Ive only seen 1-2 truly great dogs. Of those ones I have seen.....when bred always seemed to produce below average dogs, even when bred to good dogs. Dont know if the expectation was too high on the offspring or discouragement from the owners? But it is funny how that works sometimes. Do yall see the same?

Tdog I got the eating about perfected....still working on the hog hunting part.
I was planning on breeding a gyp this year. The way they came in heat it would of been slap when I was gone out of town. I would like too next heat cycle. I am hunting 3 littermate sisters that are 4. Good thing about owning all females I have just about any pick of males. LOL
Dash the Plott hound bayed the red hog solo. He can do it solo pretty consistently at 18 months. He has a long way to being a finished dog though. He went a half mile or so out hunting on saturday. I heard him baying and man i was proud. Haul butt over to him and he had about 20 head of cows bunched up pretty as could be. I was'nt too proud then! LOL

I built mine off a samurai frame. Old flat fender jeeps and samurai are/were a populat buggy platform for years. The huge palm beach style are popular now with the sxs. I like mine cause i built it with dog hunting solely in mind. It is slow and ride like an angry mule, but the dogs wind like crazy from it and it goes anywhere! lol
