HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Why does everything turn into an arguement????

Do you mean I am from the land down under and hang out at the Tourist trap Fort Worth Stockyards with a big hat and a pretty dog box with fancy names so I am going to rewrite Texas history and blow up some guys dogs I am not even old enuff to know the diffference about and call myself a dogman threads? LMAO!!!!!! People argue sometimes because too much bs is laid down as truth when some of the guys painting it are not as old as some dog boxes guys on here have. If repeated enuff on the web lately seems like most tend to think it must be truth, which usually it is not especailly if somebody says wait a minute!!! Dont drink the coolaid on the web especially, its a public forum for discussion with rules, but when bs is laid out some will hollar, then it turns personal to try to discredit the poster so they can hide the lack of documentation about a bragged about secret strain of dogs that show up recently that are claimed to be linebred for generation but i dont know why they are as big as shetlands and dont look like any other dogs of this type ever posted or even talked about. You dont have to even own a dog to know something is off with a lot of this hype. You got to admait it would be very boring without these threads and nobody would post if everybody if everybody drank the same coolaid that some hand down on here. Did I mention I have 95 pound rat terriers that can outstrike, outbark and outbay any dog sold on here or owned by any foreginer???lol Opps, meant to say on rats and they are really all under 20 pounds.........

Hope you are not implying these are susposed to be old time Black mouth cur dogs because they are not, never were and never will, just because you got roo in your title and come over and claim you are now a dog man dont make it true, you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time, lets get this tolson bs over with and debunk it before some newbie thinks that they are even black mouth curs much less a old time black mouth cur. These dogs have too much size and bull dog heads and i bet he can not or you can not prove they were or are black mouth curs that have not have some recent outside breeds in them, after all, you were not there much less even alive to know the difference between a kangerroo and a blackmouth cur so how can you claim tolsons dogs are anything but something created to sell pups to newbies like you and others who dont know the difference in the first place. Sounds like dog promotion 101 to me, lets see some pictures from at least 50 years ago if he really has a strain. It is what it is, huge dog with black muzzle, thats all i see. Looks like those Carathasns Bruno who uglydog on here can link to adds calling them catahoula bulldogs but 2 years later bruno is a yellow black mouth curLMAO!!!!! There is nothing on the web about his dogs so fill us in why u claim these are even yellow black mouth curs much less old time black mouth curs, did you not post some bull dog pups pics from his kennel a way back on here seem to me i remeber?? Willis aint buying it!!!

yes, that works for the easy ones who come back to cast but not for many who never find the shirt and lay donw somewhere wrecked or out of hearing from the wind blowing the wrong way that night trying to call them in, if you never tryed it hard to prove how good it works with dogs, kinda like having a air horn added to ones truck to go back the next night and trying to get dogs used to the air horn honk to know its there owner and come into the air hound sound for loading up. I got tired of climbing trees and hollaring and burning up horns and used this honker deal so could go to work or go home an dget some sleep beofre work or even get dogs to come out of a big ranch we had no permission or was hard to get around on, lots wont go hunt up a shirt but will come into a know beep beep horn or even a air horn sometimes especially if u can not go there every day.

Man sounds interesting... but I'm lost... you talkin' about a conditioned catch trap for hound dogs or what???
Like a hog trap with a horn on top of it connected to a 12 volt car battery, it hooks up to a timer that blows the horns 3 45 second blasts 4 times every hour, one could set it up to a deer feeder timer as well, the morning after the dog is not back u pull it out and set it up and drive home, usually the dog shows up middle of the day and is back the next night, used them for cow dogs, terriers, bird dogs etc for years, they used to be sold in the dog magazines 40 years ago for coon dogs. You try to get one dog in it usually and the rest of the pack if lost will hang there instead of running out roads trying to return to cast. We used to have terriers we left down at the river tied to a tree and he would bark out any dog that did not return after a grey fox or coon race. This helps with PR on the farmer or landowners side as well as they know you are trying to get the lost dog back, they know you have permission to be there and it gives them a number to call and something to do if they are riding around on the ranch checking water or cattle. I have seen whole packs of hounds come back 2 weeks after being lost due to 200 jets coming in for touch and go landings and a week when the viet nam war naval air station was going on down here, so many low flying planes would show up from the gulf to practice it would wreck dogs and men in the woods, you can not hear for hours when they used to do that around beeville golaid and kingsville in the 60's and 70s, we just set out a horn honker an dsomebody would drive out at lunch or supper and check for the dogs that were still coming in from us not finding them that night when the practice jets came in. We set them out in mexico for hounds that got away where we could not get to them due to no road and hired a hand on a buro to go check it and put feed out around it and come back to river to call us to come get th ehounds hanging around, lots of foxhounds would not load for anybody but the actuall owner or somebody they knew. Usually th ebest strike dog as well every time, the idiots were easy to get stolen seems like now!!!lol

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Return to cast, what does it mean, training for it, builda call back dog box
|

Returning to cast points is one of the oldest rules in the foxhound rule book. We used to hunt huge ranches down here with wolf dogs and had 10 mile races at time. Lots of times we lost dogs to out of shape, pads off, deer chasing, laying down in tanks, javelinas wreck a game tree or a bay up or even mama cows chasing dogs out from baby calfs.
We used to build a call back dog box out of cow pannels and use dog snaps to build it into a square with a trap door, we always carried it in front of the 4x8 wolf dog box we used in fullsize 4x4 trucks when we hunted south of George west and especially into old mexico. Basically we would get a 68 to 72 dodge roadrunner car horn new from the dealer or from J C whiteny and place it in the giant run around pen we had all of the wolf dogs in it, once or twice a week we would toss some special meat inside it and flip the trigger for the beep beep horn, soon a dog would be inside it eating the special treat with the horn honking, it made so much noise all of the hounds would gather around to see what the trapped dog had to eat, we got him out and turned off the horn honker trigger and tossed some more meat inside it to get all of the dogs used to the sound and going inside it and plus marking it with hound urine and caca and rubbing from the common kennel. Lots of times we were on 24 hour call and had to leave with hounds in a race or still returning to cast and used this all of the time to get one hound trapped in it so if others were out they would come up to the trap honker and hang out so the landowner or dog boy could go back and get them all inside the hunting truck dog box. Make sure when u build one now u add shade, a self feeder and water box as no telling who might find it and try to turn you in for abuse or some dumb dog hating charge, we add to start adding fire ant bait as well down at the ranch when they hit bad, put your name on the trap and ask them to call you if a dog is inside it or haNGING around it. I lost my trigger with light, had a guy down at a Radio shack build one for $10. one could add a car 12 volt battery and a solar charger off a deer feeder and leave it out for month on the same place. I wish somebody would build one and get Uglydog supply to stock it and help get this dogs back before they pass a dog lease law in texas, its got to the point that people need to be bull whipped in public who hunt with no name colars, way way bad to the poor dog and anybody who hits a dog trying to find his way back to cast. Right before i came over here 2 got killed in front of my kennel from hog hunters not caring enuff to buy a collar with name tag, one was a nice black and tan hound and other was lep, both ran over when i came back from airport, they had new TSC collars on and had starved bad before trying to eat roadkilll.. Who can make one for all of the doggers on here??? Regular horns dont work, to many idots will try to lure or steal or mislead your dogs, the beep beep was unquie and the dogs knew it.

Down here when we set up all of the self trapping hog doors in the old cow pens we ran into this over and over, you have to have thick pair of leggings and a fence you can climb and some kind of a swing gate ir else you are going to just waste time and er money proving you are a idiot to put your life in danger over a $30 hog that just hit a artery on a drive by charge. Better to be a wussy guy with chaps and a swing gate than cut down by a hog with teeth full of caca and mud to win the tuff guy challagelol I saw those pixs of that cut on here ewwwww!!!!! We also let every dog out of the kennel to bark thru the pen fence to distractt them to try to grab or rope or let a cur dog grab the one we wanted, good way to get hurt bad so quick its not funny especially if you have 30 in a pen with some real wild outfits hitting the top of the fence as they miss you!!!

If your dogs are not broke off of them they will be shredded to pieces if you dont get to them right away and pray they dont get into a cave or tree or somewhere where they can pack up and let a lead off boar or sow come out like a buffalo and charge the closest dog to them, dont forget they are a game animal, 2 per year and none taken at night. We used to shoot ever one with a 22 and give them all away, now so many cs game wardens around they will write you up for them down here nowdays. if you got loose baying dogs and no catch dogs you will be miles ahead.

Older gentleman called and said there was a dog laying in a ditch busted up with a gps collar and name plate. Age has caught up to him and he didn't want to try and climb down and get bit. Won't be over there till this evening and I have called everyone I know that hunts these areas. If he's yours give a description name etc.

Good luck finding the dog and hope you can get him rescued and hopefully at your place instead of a bar ditch!!!

All of the best dog books come from a guy named butch salom out in new mexico i think it is, he still breeds salukis and cold blooded greayhounds for catching game and owns the online bookstore called high lonesome books i think it is, there is a link on the big game hounds man fourm about the listing of books he has in the store, lots of mundane lion hound old books, bear hunting with terriers, greayhounds on grizzlys and 2 guys from texas of course prfessional lion hunters of the 60s periods.

Great video, how are you deciding they are not geyhounds, thought those sulikis have some tuffs of hair and are smaller, look like greyhounds to me but not sure, anyways both breeds have been run on desert game for about 5000 years including lion cheetah leopards, with those huge lungs and chests i would bet $5000 no hog dog from the states could run with there pack, figure out how hot is it there, that deep sand, but who knows, maybee some can chalange them to a race where they buy a container of wild hogs and turn them loose in the hot desert until the last dog gives up, bet no cat cur or even a hound can hang with them in there country!!!!!!

If anyone is missing this dog let me know. A buddy of mine is bringing the dog to me tomorrow and the dog will be hunted until someone claims the dog. Just shoot me a discreption of the dog but until then the dog will be well taken care of.
Might be me, but when i had similar lost dog type deals like this the last thing i would do would be to hunt somebody eles dog that got lost, first the dog is not yours, second what are you going to do if you lose this dog or get it killed and the real owner shows up to get his dog that is dead and says hay, I paid $800 for that dog and instead of you chaining it up you decided to hunt it because you have possession of it and lost it again or got it killed or tore up by hog, its not your dog, also I have problems with the not posting a picture of the dog so somebody might recongize it, in this day and age of the cell phone and digital camera 99 cent of dog hunters habe pictures of there dogs. I would go take a picture of the dog asap and post it up on here, somebody will prob know it, if not, its yours, this post made me think of all of the lost dogs and searching dog owners who never give up hunting for lost dogs. Try harder to find it first for like 30 days and dont hunt it, its not your dog, its your dog to do a better job of finding the owner all out instead of holding back sounding like you are taking advantage. it is what is is..........I cant help saying it, sorry for being devils advocate and i hope you find the dogs rightdfull master....

Best to sell is anything with black mouth cur on it right now, they are worthless IMHO, by the way a south ern cur is not a yellow black mouth cur now, back then or ever, Howard the promoter created a hybrid strain so he could sell pupplys out of Full cry magazine way back, the orginal yellow black mouth cur is not registered but held in a vault that was once used to guard the Fort Knox gold bars, with the way the puppy mills are turning out yellow dogs for $1000 each truthfully you could probabbly buy a squirrel dog strain treeing yellow black mouth cur from NKC or USDR and have a better dog and a orginal one as most nowdays. I still remeber when the east texas yellow black mouth cur was unregistered and was the dog to get. When i see where people on this site and other advertise foundation curs crossed up with Ladner Curs and Souther Carantan curs i laugh out lound, mongerls is all those crossed up strains are in my view, 4 types of strains with papers to sell to some poor guy for $500 to $1000 if they buy the yellow black mouth cur coolaid they sell to newbies. If the registerys were worth a dang they would blackball anybody who was trying to cross up 3 or 4 completely different dogs, some not even ybmc just to make money on the papers puppy registration and set up websites for puppy factorys!!!
Long live the backyard splitters hog dog strain brreders with no papers who did not and do not drink the yellow black mouht cur coolaid!!!!lol East texas original yellow black mouth curs for ever!!!!!!!!!!!! Puts on Outlaws Green Grass and Hightides for ever and turns it up!!!!!!!!

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Are Goodman Fox hounds and Cathoula Leopard from the same dog way back???
|
on: March 10, 2012, 09:09:56 pm

Some of the July hounds come spotted and glass eyed and have basicly the same foundation blood. The original July hound was a dog named July and was a son of Mountain and Muse, the pair of Irish hounds imported by Mr. Ogle.
Never saw a old line July with a glass eye, they were one or 2 solid colors back then in the 60's and 70's when a July pack was the prized thing to have to catch yotes and bobcats on these huge ranches down here that had thousands of angora goats getting eaten alive by bobcats, eagles, lionss and town down dogs and yotes, most of th julys have been crossed with everyhting to the point where in my view it is not even the same dog, just like has happened to some terrier breeds who dont tree and are way to huge for varmits. Goodmand association used to be barely alive, last one i went t there were about 100 blues etc etc at it, think it was held in Illinois, i have gogoled lately and can find the club any more. Just like some of the julys and goodmans at one time there was a rare treeing strain in the strain itself vs the normal wolf dogs. There is a strain of running walkers that have been bred for running in the hot dry brush of south texas still going on down here but i think since mexico got sold to the cartels there will none of them left soon like 4 years, ranches have been cut up, people dont want to hunt running game and meixoc is to dangerous and nobody buys cat hides anymore, you got to remember some of the running hound breeders used the dogs to make a living with and you nevee saw these fancy answy websites with some dog that got blown up about, peeps used to read the hunters horn and others to see what dog won in the feild trials all over the usa. Sadly many wormy people on the site continue to bash hounds treeing and running without ever knowing the foxhound rule box rules still available from hunter horn as to speed and drive, sriking, returning to cast etc etc. If you like to read about foxhounds and see some interesting pictures of dogs that have got to have been added look up Hudspeths, and Birdsongs and some more now extinct breeds who were bred to sound a certain way so that if a 100,000 valley had 15 different packs of foxhounds running at nights the owners of the different plantations could pick out there packs bird soung squeal over say a hudspeths bell mouth bak on trak, I sure miss the Goodmans and and the birdsongs for sure, different and not for sale from pupply factorys raised by wetbacks like near me nowdayslol

Where do yall go on vacation? Im wanting to take a small 3-4 day vacation, needs to be within a one days drive from SE Texas, and not cost an enormous amount. Let me know if you have been some where that you liked and would go back to again. Probably looking at going sometime in May.
Drive out to Apline and take the river road along the rio grande, prob best drive in texas and very few people and great scenic views, or take a truck and trailer full of horses and ride down to big shell on the 60 mile 4x4 only road, its secluded and you need 4x4 with tow straps and extra water and gas, or just go up to Fort Worth and take in the stockyards and all of the horse cowboy stuff around it, lots of people go down to port aransas or rockport before school gets out and too crowded. I would hit every bar bee que or seasfood place i could going and cominglol

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Do you believe certain dogs use their tails while running?
|
on: March 08, 2012, 01:05:46 pm

|
God made dogs with and without tails, why in the world would one want to redo something God has made for us, I used to dock all the rat terriers as pups, one day I asked myself why, could not answer so quit 30 years ago doing it. same way as a hound in full cry with tail arched, seen too many other dogs go to a hound trailing with a faster wagging tail as they had just got the hottest track, all dogs with tails use them when running, lots of terriers use them to back out of colasping holes or hollow rotten trees as well seen it to many times in person, how many times have you looked across whitebrush or a solid cactus patch and only spied a dog with its head down trailing and its tail wagging, if it was a bob taled dog chance the pack might not see it as well and not help it pick up a ducking and doging varmit. I figure they like a flag with a lite on top like those sand dune buddys have.

I have a leopard x plot gyp that is ny lead dog.. when I first got her she was hunting alot harder but she was kinda thin, so I've been feeding her about a cup more a day, but now it seems like she isn't hunting as hard as she was before.. should I go back to Wut I was feeding her in the first place and jus keep her slim and trim? And I don't mean starving!
Start over fresh, get dronccit and some kind of hookworker and clean her out, start cooking for her some, you can buy milk replacer and add some kind of cheap hambuger so she gets the smell and makes her mind want to eat again, might try to slip in some red cell in there but not too much as they ddont like a lot of it, just buying the best high pro you can and adding some milk power and heating it up might spike up interest in her food, what dog food are you actually feeding her right now by the way?? Dont forget to check for heartworms as well if you catch them early you can usually treat them yourself and save the dog. Dog has to be in better than good shape if you are hunting her regularly and hard, you might have pulled her down and she is not getting eunff high protein to keep up with your heunting rountine, you are btter off with a overfed dog than one who is thin usually. Pump her up and show us some pictures of her and some hogs you guys caught!!! Please!! Good luck!!
