HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Anyone Live around Rusk?
|
on: March 01, 2015, 05:55:55 pm

First let me say it's good to be back on here! It's been a while! I used to own several dogs and always enjoyed running them. I've since had a couple of more kids and started a new business so I've been out of the hog dog game. That being said I haven't gotten out of the hog game. I have a place about 20 miles from rusk with hogs galore. Wanting to take a couple of clients out hog hunting and thought they might enjoy running a few dogs. Would anyone be interested in taking myself and a few other people hunting if I provide the land (4000 acres) food (steaks) and drinks? Let me know what y'all think. Oh and here's a pic of what we'll run into.

I know all of the surrounding neighbors and they all hate hogs. They are really getting to be a problem in this bottom. Dont get me wrong... who doesn't like seeing a hog while deer hunting every now and then... but these hogs are taking over and seem to be running the deer off (no more deer on the trail cams....just hogs). We shouldn't have a problem at all crossing property lines.

Yeah it should be pretty easy hunting. I have a feeder setup in a clear area about 30 yards from where you can park a truck and it's the main feeding grounds for the hogs. Their scent should be all over right there!

As some of you may recall my story, I used to hunt with dogs all the time back in my college days (10 yrs ago). Now I mostly chase ducks and a good backstrap every now and then. But I spend alot of time on here reading and conviencing myself I need to get some more dogs. Well, I moved to the Longview Texas area about 8 months ago and aquired a 100 ac lease a mile from my house to deer hunt on. I have a few feeders out on this place and had deer consistantly coming to them, now I have a hog problem. Every night my cameras take pics of 6 to 10 hogs.... and I mean some good ones! So instead of putting some traps out and trying to thin them out a little that way, what do you guys say about meeting up and lets go get them! My property is in the Cypress Creek Bottoms in North Gregg County. I'm looking to get some people together and lets catch us some hogs. I have no dogs, but thats where some of yall may come in. I can pretty much guaruntee a good time and some good pigs. Let me know your ideas!

home made is the way to go... ive trapped hundreds and every hog, every place, every circumstance is different. have to have different ones for different hogs. i would sugest starting with a figure six. or a round trap with t post and 4x4 panels and a trap door, bigger the better...
X2, corral type continuous catch, cant go wrong with it unless you have some high jump hogs, lol yall got any pics???
