HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Runners

Some people just have better dogs than others. Others have great spots to hunt. To say that your stuff has never been outrun, tells me one thing. You have not been in it too long. What I feed satisfies me, and I feel as though I have high standards when it comes to hunting stock. However, I can assure you, my hounds do get outrun or outwitted from time to time. Most of those instances, I have called them off the track, but I do so out of experience. Isn't that the truth! If you haven't been burned at one time or another, you simply haven't been hunting long enough. A bold statement would be, "I have never been burned!" That's a bold statement!

So everybody on this board has been talking about getting burned lately, and your saying that this guy is the only one around stopping ALL his hogs and NONE make more than 500 yards?? I'm sorry, but I don't buy it and also know better!

Krchemwcurs, are you really saying that you stop every hog and they don't make it 500 yards when they run? Come on now, you don't have any dogs that are better than the rest of us. Everybody is getting burned at one time or another. There isnt a dog on earth that's not gonna get smoked by a hog at a few times in his life.

I have a catahoula x Pitt. She is a strike dog w/ great nose. She bays about the same as the other pure breeds. I think it's best if tha momma is the catahoula. She favors her more. Still a muscular dog though.

Usually for me, when I put a dog like that in with my dogs (eight), he or she will socialize and they start to come around. I think it's important to exercise a dog as well. Most dogs I've personally seen that have weird issues like that, they've had some kind of dramatic experience OR spend a lot of time by themselves. Give her some love, and spend some time with her. Run the crap out of her behind your wheeler and hunt her with a lead dog. Maybe this will help you. Good luck.

I like a dog that will get out from under my feet and cover some ground. All my strike dogs hunt about 600 - 800 yards on average. To me, that's long range. When they get in some rank sign, I've had em go 2 miles before they bay. We catch a lot of hogs cause we cover alot of ground. Plus, we have a handle on all the dogs. We cast and cover ground and load up. Move down and cast again. A lot of people around here spend more time screaming at dogs then they do hunting. I can dump 4 times to their one. Some places a dog has got to hunt to find a pig.

Like a lot of us have been saying, this story is getting told by more and more faces. All of which have great dogs who are capable of stopping a hog. The future of doggin hogs is about to change. It's coming soon.

I love the sound of the hound and I have hunted most everything there was to hunt with a hound before I hunted the hog many guys brought up the point of grab dogs getting hit or the grab dogs can not make the race with the more pure lines I believe this to be true I run full throttle grab dogs they are bread for hogs I have a little bark and they will hunt all day just my opinion the grab dogs are under estimated and under trained RUNNING BULLS ONLY
most people in my neck of the woods don't know about performance type bulldogs. They are built different than your average short, fat, bulldog, which is what most people own. They are a lot faster and lankyer. Still.... They will not out run a hound x bully cross.

The more catch dogs the merryer. Just dont turn them loose till you need um. that's my idea, don't use em unless you need em. If I could get one to do the job, I wouldn't own anymore. It's just impossible for one dog to do everything I need in all the different places we hunt.
