They've never been on a lion so I can't really say for sure. They'll run a bobcat slap to death though. I live in Lone Camp. I had a place to hunt in Perrin several years ago but I think the bank ended up taking it. Call or text me if you want to go. Derek 817-597-1150

I took my bobcat dogs on a hunt in Aspermont a few weeks ago and found several cats. I'd like to hunt some more in that type of country. I figured there's bound to be someone on here that would like to go cat hunting. If any of you guys are around these counties, have a place, and want to cat hunt, give me a call. Knox, Archer, Baylor, Haskell, Throckmorton, Young, Jack, Stephens, Palo Pinto, or just about anywhere else within 2 hrs of Lone Camp, TX. All dogs wear a Garmin with shocker. I don't let them get away with any wrong so rest easy on that. I work 24 hrs and off 48 so I can go week days or weekends. Thanks, Derek 817-597-1150. Call or text

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: want some kennel opinions

Framed mine with square tubing. Bought 24 ft sticks. Pens are 8x8, 24' pen divided into 3, with sheeted top and back. 2x4 hole panels. Panels are in 4' increments (12, 16, 20) so very little waste from frame or panel. Each set of kennels is 8x24 so can pull up on a trailer and move fairly easily. Thinking about mounting barrels sticking out back to give more room in kennel. Obvious but don't forget to make gates wide enough to get barrel or dog house or whatever in and out. Derek

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Garmin folding antenna review

I bought the folding antenna that attaches directly to the Astro and folds down the side. DON'T BUY IT. It adds absolutely no range to the small rubber antenna. It is a piece of junk. Derek

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: DC 40 Collars?

I just bought 2 DC40's and I've had them out twice. The first thing I did when I got them was update the software to the current version 3.6. Can't tell you much about the max range yet but so far I like them. I lost signal on the DC30's a little quicker than the 40's with the small rubber antenna. I have lost signal with the 40's with the dogs in the box but not when the dogs are out hunting. I have probably only been one mile from the dogs with the roof mount antenna and the 40's worked great. The charger is 100 times better and the straps don't stink like the 30's. I wouldn't get rid of your 30's to buy 40's but from here on out I would say buy 40's. I think most of the problems they had at the beginning were software issues. If you get them you need to make sure they AND the Astro have the latest update. Derek

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Spotted up cat

ChaseG..we'll get together before too long I hope.
LionandBoarhunter..conditions are good here right now, have you had any rain yet?
As far as training, about the only way to make bobcat dogs is to run bobcats. Nothing else can teach the dogs to work out the kind of "tricks" a cat can pull.
As far as what to do with them when they tree.. I'd prefer to leave them to run again especially if it's a place I get to hunt a lot. Some places want the cats gone so they want them shot. Quite a few won't tree and will get caught on the ground. Sometimes I'll poke the cat out and run some more if I have some young dogs.
