1  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: RCD ? on: September 13, 2010, 09:34:52 pm
i have a couple i consider RCD's. they will honar a bay, can and have found hogs on they're own, and there is no barking just catching. i have some "gritty cur's" that will catch smaller hogs on they're own but when they get on a bigger one will bay till that RCD gets there then catch. i think if your gonna call it a RCD it better have the heart to catch any size hog it come's across on it's own with no other dogs. just  my 2 cents

Tri Tronics is the best tool a dog hunter can have in my opinion. But like anything else it can ruin a dog in the hands of an idiot.

yeah most likely your antenna or the wire in the gps for the antenna. try your buddies antenna on yours if it still doesn"t work probably the gps.
6  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Mounted video cameras on dogs! on: July 10, 2010, 07:46:35 am
i watched a show on tv a while back where they mounted a small camera on a dog. they turned it out on some tracks and the dog found a hog and bayed it. they then put a tracking collar on the hog and came back i believe a few days later to see where the hog had traveled to. the video was stored in the camera and they viewed it after. it was cool to see the dog working the hog and then to see the hog running from the dog. it was a little hard to watch because the video bounced around alot. i've said a few times when i new for sure the dogs were running or even had a hog bayed and something would happen and the dogs would come back i wish i had a camera on the dog. i thought about trying a camera like the one's used on helmets and mounting it on a harness.
7  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: On a average how long does a catch dog last? on: July 08, 2010, 03:27:07 pm
As said before this is an impossible question to answer because there are to many variables. I didn't notice that anyone mentioned tracking systems. I have been using the garmin gps tracking system now for about a year and i know exactly where my dogs are which direction there headed and the quickest way to get to them. I have a good sized leggy rednose with a pretty darn good nose that get gone on me and run down a hog and with the gps i can get there in a hurry. I also think the weather is a big factor. I'm from florida and during the summer it is just to hot to run the vests and cut collars especially during the day and for this reason i hunt at night a lot. Just my 2 scents on this topic.
