Is red mange contagious from dog to dog?

Is it genetic and can be passed down?

What treat with?

Thanks!

9  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / DADS WORDS on: August 15, 2011, 03:17:10 pm
About 10 years ago I was going thru a really rough time. I was broke, in debt, had 2 kids, and was married to a woman I didn't love with a divorce on the way. I decided I would go to my dads one afternoon, and as I drove up in the yard, there he was on the front porch swing as if he knew I was coming over (although I had not called). When I sat down in the swing beside him, I began to cry. I hung my head and said "I didn't know IT was this hard".{ IT BEING LIFE}. My dad never asked me what happened or what was wrong. He put his arm around my shoulder and said "it's going to be OK". After a bout 20 minutes of just sitting there with him and crying I got up and left.

Now, I consider myself to be fairly tough. Ive had broken bones, concusions, and knocked out teeth. Thrown from horses and bulls. Been in car wrecks, bar fights, and been thrown in jail a time or two.

But let me tell you the comfort this ol tough guy felt when my dad put his arm around me that day!!!

Dad passed away in 2007, And is buried in our family cemetery. I visit his grave every few weeks, and as I stand there, the only words I can think to say are "THANK YOU"

A few days ago I was doing some bushogging and had a lot of time to think. I thought about some of the struggles I had been thru in my life and some of the sruggle yet to come. I started to feel my dads arm around my shoulder, and could hear his voice saying "IT'S GOING TO BE OK"- I CRIED

Thats a good article and very true. We have two horses now we dont know what to do with. One is going blind and cant be ridden safely, and the other is old and in bad health. I figue I have three choices:

#1- Do nothing and their health will continue to worsen and they will continue to suffer.

#2-Pay a vet $100 apiece to put them down, and a backhoe man $100 to dig a hole.

#3- Lead them to the burn pile and shoot them in the head, taking a chance on getting in trouble for cruelty to animals and not dispossing of the carcass properly.

Here is what would happen if the horse slaughter plants were open:

I would haul them to the sale barn and get a check for $500. Then I would carry my wife out to eat (helping the local economy) She would buy school clothes for the kids(helping the local economy) and so on.

Dear Lord, your word says that by your stripes we are healed. I ask you now God to dispatch Angels from heaven to be with Mr. Ronnie and his wife. I ask Lord that you touch their lives in every way. Lord, I ask you in the NAME OF JESUS that you heal Mr. Ronnies wife. I bind together now LORD, with all ETHD and ask LORD that her life be touched in a special (super natural) way and that you strengthen her body, mind, spirit and soul. Let her feel your presence like never before. LORD, you are my savour and you ARE almighty. I pray this prayer in JESUS NAME ! AMEN !

I like Mr. Ronnie idea. I had a very close friend that was murdered about 10 years ago. He was the best rough and tumble cowboy I ever knew. He told me one time "you take a pissy horse that dosent want to ride right, saddle it up about 5:30 am, use it a little, keep it saddled all day. That night leave it saddled, feed only hay and water. Do that for a few days, never take saddle off, and on the evening of the third day when you loosen the girth THEY WILL START TO APPRICIATE YOU A LITTLE BIT."

And tiny-get out of the round pen.

Mr. Ronnie I need a cow dog.

I don't know about the blueticks, but I'm with you on the JESUS part. I'm not saying I'm a perfect christian, or even a good christian, But I know that
where ever I'm at I can call on his name and he'll be there for me.

As for Chance, maybe one day he will see the error of his ways and "PRAY THRU." lol

16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Rye grass.... on: September 16, 2010, 12:04:25 pm
Matt, Another thing to consider is to not clip the pastures you don't plant to late. Let the native grass in those pastures get a little height to it. The first good freeze it will die, then you can put out some molasses tubs, molasses blocks, are liquid feed. That will encourage the cattle to eat the dead grass just like hay, which would mean not putting out hay all the time. I used to be a dealer for Pro-Lix liquid feed. The people I sold to had good results, and I've used it before myself.
17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / The time I "SAVED CHANCE'S LIFE" on: September 15, 2010, 01:37:48 pm
Years ago me and Chance were drinking Beer in one of them road side juke joints. After about six or seven Chance started to get a littlle loud. After a few more he got down right mouthy. Well, this big fella walked up and told Chance to quiet down or we would have to leave the bar. Chance didn't like what the ole boy said or the way he said it so he invited the man outside and told the man he would show him how cows "really ate grass." Well the guy popped Chance in the mouth, wrestled him against the bar, pullrd out a knife and helled it to his throat. That's when I told myself I can do 1 of 2 things.I can run or I can help my friend in need. So I got up in between them and talked the guy down, got him to give me the knife And we got out of there fast. So basically you could say I saved Chance's life. I'm always glad to help a friend.

Did I forget to mention I need I cow dog !!!

Cutter Bay- The bull is a little over 18 months old, and he was certified as a virgin, so there is no Trich issue. It didn't take him lomg to learn the ropes. I left him in the pen with some small heifers Sunday night when we got home. I got home Tuesday afternoon and realized if I didn't get him out of there soon he was going to be charged with RAPE! So I turned him out with some cows where he can get some experiance with some older ladies.

Matt- That dog was given to me by a guy that used to work for me. He will bay a little bit, but he's really just a pet. He's the only dog at the house that runs loose and has been neutured. I would have gotten rid off him a long time ago, but the kids love him And I guess i'm a little attached to him too.

Chance-Thats the exact reason I'm moving in the direction I am with the King Ranch bull. King ranch is 55 feet above sea level. Im at 85. I don't  think my steer calves will bring top dollar at the sale, But my replacement heifers should have the heat tolorance. I hope to buy another bull in the spring.
20  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Horse Collar...... on: September 15, 2010, 12:30:21 pm
Looks like a neck rope to me guys. If you were doctorig calves, and were alone, you would run your rope thru the neck rope and tie-off. This keeps your horse facing  in the direction of you and what you roped. It also prevents the horse from turning and dragging what you roped away from you While you tie or doctor. In other words, it keeps the horse faced-up. But I could be wrong.
