1  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Possible English pointer stud dog on: July 14, 2013, 09:55:08 pm
In my opinion, this dog is a very good candidate to breed to and the price is right also!  Taking into account that this dog is kenneled on a plantation, the chances of him being a good bird dog is very good, as these operations can’t keep dead weight around.  A good part of their income is from guiding hunters over these dogs.  Without seeing him in the field, I feel it is a safe bet to say he is indeed a good hunting dog.

Secondly, his genetics says to me he is worth breeding to as well as being a good hunting dog.  His sire is from a long line of very successful field trial dogs.  His dam, being one of Freddy Rayl’s dogs, also points me in the direction of him being the right stuff.  Freddy Rayl has been field trialing for many years. He knows a good dog, one to keep and one to breed to, so having said all that, yeah that liver and white male you have a picture of should make a nice stud dog.

If my memory serves me correctly, Campbell curs are a pointer/bulldog cross already?  I will be anxious to hear more about this potential future breeding Buddylee.

Yep...Freddie is a cornerstone in the Field Trail game. Always with a very good string of dogs to compete with.  If I'm not mistaken Freddie is from down your way.

buddylee....here is some info on Whipporwill Wild Agin.  http://www.phantomkennels.com/wildagin.html

His pedigree link is in the middle of the page.  He is a strong Miller bred dog which would indicate the dog can RUN.  He is Horseback field trial stock for SEVERAL generations.

FYI....the numbers you see for instance with CH. Miller's Silver Bullet - *100-613-4326 are as follows.  The * means this dog is in the Field Trial Hall of Fame.  100 represents how many field trial placements this dog has.  1st, 2nd. or 3rd place, if enough dogs were entered in the trial, is considered a "placement".  613 represents how many of his offspring had placements in a field trial and the 4326 represents the total number of trial “placements” from the 613 offspring that placed.

I have a 52" Samsung Plasma.  Great picture-color-definition.  I love watching high def. programs on it.  It does radiate quite a bit of heat.  I have a fairly dark room and was told the plasma was a better choice.  I can't say personally if it was a better choice, as this is my first new fangled tv, but I sure do like it.  Grin

8  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: window/ac for cooler on: July 22, 2012, 01:39:04 pm
I made myseLf a walk-in cooler.  I used a 110 volt window unit and i did insulate the building.  AC units have a themostat that will rarely allow you to run it colder than 65 degrees.  To get around this i aquired an in-line thermostat.  I removed the factory thermostat, replaced it with the in-line thermostat and it works like a charm.  Just be careful not to run the temp too low, under 35 degrees or you will find a big ice ball in what used to be the AC unit.  Ruined my first one learning this lesson.   Come to think of it, Most of the lessons in my life have  been learned that way for some reason!

The bio-sensor/ super-dog method has made as much difference in my 25 years of breeding bird dogs, as has the proper selection of my breeding stock & utilizing selective line-breeding.  This early puppy neurological stimulation works , it's not a joke, it is legit.  Here is the recipe for making a HUGE difference in your pups.

That's all bird dog.  She's a year old and I was working her on some pigeons.  We got a bay pen finished this week-end.  We'll get to work some young hog dogs as soon as we can catch or get a smaller hog and I can't wait!

15  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: New Hunting Rig on: January 15, 2012, 08:32:29 pm
Put in about 7 or 8 hours of riding time over the last 3 days.  Man, this gal is awesome.  She is a beast in the timber.  I really had no idea what to expect when I took off into the woods with her but she travels as well in the woods as she does in a wheat field.  She just ducks her head a little finds an opening and bulldozes straight ahead.

I have yet to shoot within her hearing to gauge her sensitivity to the gun.  She is not on bit squirrelly around the dogs.  My wife's schnauzer ran  up to her yesterday.  I held my breath, as I fully expected to see the dog get punted into the neighbors yard.  She never picked up a foot and the dog was sniffing her hocks of the back end.  SO far, so good!!  After that introduction, I will bring my dogs around her and start making their acquaintances.

Here's a couple more pics of some good looking black ass Grin  Look at the tip of the dogs tail, and you'll she her checking out the puppy training session.

It's hard to see from the angle, but there is an old lightweight saddle blanket over the tubing.  She learned if she walks up to the tubing and bumps it with her chest , it falls and she can step over it Grin   I had to rig the tubing so it was a bit more secure.  I'm having a ball with her and have been wondering why I've waited so long to do this!
17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: New Hunting Rig on: January 14, 2012, 05:00:01 pm
She does jump.  I built a gizmo that will hold some square tubing and so far she will jump about 3 feet, over that she sets her parking brake, again if I knew what I was doing we might have different results.

This gal is awesome!  I went for a ride this morning with her and most of it was in timber along a creek near my house.  She is a bulldozer in the woods.  I have a nice gash in my left ear from me not ducking low enough.  I have found that I can literally lay on her neck and she will go thru just about any timber she can get her head under.  She appears to be the ultimate 4-wheel drive.

18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / New Hunting Rig on: January 13, 2012, 05:45:57 pm
Here's my new hunting rig.  Her name is "Opie", formerly known as "Oprah".  My youngest daughter thought it distasteful for her name to be Oprah.  I thought it was a perfect name for a beautiful, intelligent, black a$$.  In trying to get along and play well with others, I caved and re-named her Opie, unfortunately she now has gender issues.

I have never owned a mule before and I was actually looking for a young mule so I could "train" it how I wanted.  A good friend told me that in this endeavor, one of us should know what we are doing and since I don't, I went with an 11 year old that has been hog hunted, coon hunted, used as a pack animal on elk hunts and lots of trail rides.

By the way, the saddlebags are insulated Grin

19  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Your favorite gun... Pics on: January 12, 2012, 09:28:00 pm
This is a dandy rifle for me.  Sig SHR 970.  I have 30-06 & 25-06 barrels for this gun ( interchangeable ) .  I have shot about 20 rounds thru the 30-06 barrel and hundreds thru the 25-06.  Deadly medicine on whitetails...

20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: dogs underbite? on: January 04, 2012, 06:48:12 pm
Back in the day, I had and saw bulldogs with that were bad undershot.  For them being able to bite and hold, it was a matter of their heart, some had it some did not, as for breeding I chose to pass on the ones that were "grinnin" at me, just my 2 cents
