1  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Three legged dogs for hunting!?! on: April 02, 2012, 09:24:20 am
Hey guys I just wanted to give y'all an update. The vet is on the fence about amputation doesn't think we need to go that drastic just yet because nothing is broke (x-rays showed nothing) and he still has feeling all thru it. I asked about the physical therapy and she agreed stretching it and walking him to try and encourage him to use it. Which I have started. She wants to reevaluate in 30 days and see if any changes if not then we will prolly resort to amputation. Thanks for all the advice and input stayed tuned and I'll try and keep updates posted. Thanks again

My buddy had a border collie gyp that we wanted to breed to my male border collie, he caught her late in her heat cycle we went ahead and put them together and she wouldn't stand finally got them hung one time but were afraid it wouldn't take so he went to the vet and got her aborted (with a shot) that brought her back in. Yet to know if it payed off she's not quite far enuff along to show. But you may ask your vet but first weigh your options, my buddy was told there was a chance the shot would cause her to come in heat and never go out with the only fix being spaying. Or worse he said the gyp could die. So really weigh your options. Hope this helps.

Jimco, no need to apologize for a long winded reply, you have brought up a point that I haven't thought about.   I'm going to call the vet today and set up an appointment to go back in. I'll keep y'all posted on his progress, if anybody else has thoughts or suggestions please post. Thanks again!

He holds it up or it just stays up I can't really pin point that one, and from time to time I think I see him moving the foot but when I stop to look it doesn't happen again. No there were no X-rays done. The loss of muscle is on the shoulder it's now nothing but skin over bone that's how it feels. He doesn't act like it hurts him what so ever he bounces around and raises hell when we leave without him. I have pinched the toes and he will wince. I don't want to cull him what's so ever but I'm trying to look at it from a what's fair to him standpoint. I have not asked the vet about amputation yet and nor has he sugested it as an option. But that was 2 weeks ago. I appreciate yalls feed back.

Okay I have a serious question. I bought a young male cur dog last September and he has super star potential wrote all over him he's really been coming along nicely has struck a couple of hogs for me and is my go to in runner country. But about six weeks ago his front right shoulder swelled up at first I thought it was a broken shoulder but the vet said no its an abscess or possible spider bite and leave it alone and let it run it's course while on antibiotic. Did that the swelling popped and drained and within a week it was healing that was 3 weeks in the making. He has lost all mobility and muscle mass in the leg but still has feeling. My question is do I have leg amputated and hunt him pen dog him or something or do I put him down?
6  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Sportmix?? on: March 01, 2012, 09:09:14 pm
I switched from victor to sportsmix (blue bag), because of victor's piss poor results. And, I don't think I have upgraded. I'm still having weight and energy issues. Had fecal test done vet said cleanest she had ever seen. My feed store only carries blue bag, so I'm goin to see if he will get the black or something. Anybody have any suggestions I'm lost I'm feeding 4 1/2 cups to 6 cups to 35 to 70 pound dogs and I have some that look like they haven't ate in a month and that isn't me! Any advice?

I have 3 littermates and my hunting buddies have the other 2. their momma to me is a cracker jack box of prizes, but their daddy was a kinda quite easy minded dog that caught like a vise. because of him we were worried if we waited til they were a year they wldnt fire so we started them on a 20 lbs pig at 6 months and after they fired we put them up and have been playing about once a month with a little bigger pig every time. hope this helps

I use a shock collar on mine. He wasnt broke to lead to pull but he picked it up and the vergal towing service has nearly jerked my shoulder out a time or two. So i put a shock collar on him and as soon as the leash gets tight i hit the button he goes flying backwards and then does it again adter 2 nights i got him about straightined out last night i didnt put it on him but put the garmin collar on like it was the shock collar, he bumped the leash and ran back lol after that walked at my side til it was time to work

This now, what next! You want to stop their funding dont buy from their supporters Like Carrie Underwood and Willy Nelson (surprise he was a big player in the horse slaughter and noqw big on the fight against blm). I cant think of any other off the top of my head right now. but there is a start

19  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Opening the horse slaughter market back up... on: September 12, 2011, 11:51:46 am
Its a crying shame that they took it away. cant afford to feed em and you cant afford to sale because at auction they run your horse thru give it away and send you the bill not the check.
20  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: wood floored dog kennels on: September 12, 2011, 11:36:28 am
I built a wooden dog trailer sealed with thompsons and havent had any trouble I use it everytime i hunt and some late nights leave dogs in it all night. Ive also had dogs chew on it and never got sick. I will say though from my experience it doesnt protect against urine very well.
