dog fights ,,,eh..no biggie if its just a put you in your place kinda thing, if a dog steps outa line in the pack the alpha should put them in their place. that being said anything more than a growl or little scufflr will not be tolerated. what i hate the most is when you have a dog that you think is ''broke'' , then a new or young dog gets to trashin' and your ''broke'' dog joins right in.

thats what im saying................i havent seen a blue that was a true game dog..ever. going head up with a hog does not make it ''game''. still wanting more after they have gotten thier ass handed to em shows thier gameness.

Alll I do is ear tag them and brand them. Ive had fish and game come out and they can't do anything about it cause it been tags and mark as livestock
Now thats how to get around em! Thats California ingenuity! [/quote] that right there is how its done! f&g are a bunch of siisy little chumps out here anyhow. i had one at my place a few years ago and he literally ran like a little girl to his truck when he heard some hogs in the brus and said he wasnt coming out till they were gone. then he goes on t.v. and acts like some bad ass hero..........straight up CHUMP! ok off the soapbox now

good to hear. they look nice! its real tough finding the right balance between protection and freedom to move adequetly in the brush. i have had dogs get caught on a fence and get thrashed by a mean boar. where i hunt all it is, is super thick brush so movement is a must.

here is the story:
things startred out slow this morning. my cuz arrived just before 9 am.......... by 9:15 we were on our way. 3 dogs , belle, tex and the butcher. its has been a little bit since we have hunted together and we were both ready to put some miles in. with a nice lunch in the pack we were headed into battle, expecting a long day running through the hills. it wasnt the ideal hog hunting weather, sun shinning bright nice little breeze, G.D. beautifull day to be out though! we new from the start it would be a brush busting day.
we reach the first patch and kick tex & belle in.................
20 min. later ..........nuthin.
up the draw and on to the next...........................................................................
2 miles later we reach the edge of a massive brush ''patch'' that isnt really a patch at all, its more like 200 acres of the nastiest fricken stuff that you can get out here . you cant follow trails through this stuff you just have to make your own. un shackle the curs and send them into the brush.............
a few minutes pass and i notice tha butch is paying alot of attention to the sights and sounds of the rest of the crew . then i hear.'' wheres the hogs butch, go get the hog buddy!''off he goes........not 5 minutes later we hear a blood curdling noise that neither of us could comprehend. it wasnt a squeal, nor was it a yelp.........cant really explain it. a few minutes later we hear a faint yelp and my cuz yells '' thats butcher!''
here we go ,smashing through the brush on our way to the scene. as i make my way to the one raod i nearly walk right off a 20' cliff above it. i slide down and wait and listen..not long and i hear one bark. then nothing... i couldnt figure out where they were, but i knew that we had to find them quick or it wouldnt be good.
i hauled ass down the road , across the creek and up the other side to get a better view. just as i reach the top i see my cuz right where i had hit the road . he yells to me that he hears somthing in the brush about 50' down the 60 degree hillside. he calls butch a couple times and then says '' here he comes , his mouth is a little bloody but he is ok''. full on sprint back to were he was and when i get back on that side i see him going into the brush. i get to where he went in just as he is helping butch up. i reach out and take the leash and get him on the road to look him over.. a few nice pokes , but nuthing that we cant handle.
as we are lokking butch over my cuz tells me '' that damn hog is till close , i heard him when i grabbed butch''. then i look up and both tex and bell are 30' away starring into the brush, tails tucked. i grab the 41mag with a quick glance and a nod of the head i was off....5 steps in the brush and i hear the brush to my left explod , followed but the tell tale sound of a pissed of hog........loud popping sounds seemed to echo through the canyon. this next part takes place in about 5 seconds....... big black spot moves to the right ...i got a bead on him but its not a clear shot and i dont want to just fire off into the brush.i see him break uphill heading right for me.................he appears out of nowhere 3' in front of me . he didnt seem to enjoy what he met when he reached the small clearing.....BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hit him in the left shoulder and stopped him in his tracks ..kinda.. still coming forward .BOOM!!!!!!!!! he starst to turn and BOOM......i hit him again...now he is thinking retreat but before he can get too far ....you guessed it........BOOM! one behind the shoulder. i see him fall and holler out '' dead hog , dead hog!!! i
get back up grab some knives and head back in to get to work. a while later and two packs of meat/dog food we were on our way back........
intense hunt it was boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hope you enjoy....i know i did........

good posts here guys! i too have been dooped a time or two in the begining. i chalk it up to being somewhat nieve at the time. i got into this sport on my own and really had no clue what i was getting into when i started. its now been 10 years since i was given my first hog dog and ill say this........out of all the dogs i have owned, the ones that were given to me turned out to be dogs that i would have never sold....ever...and then there are the ones that i paid good money for that shoulda been culled long before i got them. it seems the art of culling has ceased to exsist. guys will sell off anything for a quick buck. i have never sold a single dog. the ones that i bought that didnt work out arent around. there arent many hog doggers in my area and the last thing i would want is to get a rep for pawning off number 2ty dogs to unsuspecting newbies. i would much rather have a rep for having great dogs that people want but cant get. kinda like ''man i wish he would sell me one or two of those dogs '' , instead of '' that guy is a dog trader with a yard full of culls''.

It cracks me up when people are like of look that's a rednose pit them are the baddest pits or look it's a blue nose pit , they are just diffrebt colors all pits , there are rednoses that are culls an there are blue noses that are culls the color anit got nothing to do with how good the dog is , What do they call the dark brindle pits black noses ?
thats just it , they arent just different colored ''pitts''. never heard of a brindle dog being called a black nose. the blue is a reccesive gene that shouldnt even be around but people seem to like the color so they intentionaly bred them for color, not gameness or temperment just color.
