Longest race Franklinton, la across the tangipohoah river twice. 31 miles and caught a 400# russian last spring with danny sanders plotts. it was worth it in the end. but I would much rather catch em up and find a hog that will stop on a normal basis. or several hogs by the time u chase one for 16 hours.

leave them alone, that a good genetic sign. I have 8 in this litter. 6 with double dew claws 1 with 1 dew and 1 w/o. they will be fine. I have never had a problem.

like most good hog doggers u could make a pack out of his culls and mine too. it depens on whaat level of hog dog u have. I give mine to 9 months. if they arent baying right and hunting with the big dogs. then off to the farmer in atmore. when i first started I would get all the culls from around me. I later culled a bunch and fed way to many dogs for far to long. I now hunt on a better level. but Im getting better each year.

a tame is hog ok. but it doesnt get them amped up. as the pup grows so does the hog. I m not saying put a 3 month old dog on a 50# hog, put a 3 month old pup on a 15# hog. the more the hog moves the more interested the pup will be.. I dont use sows for training I want a game hog of right size. As the pup starts whipping the hog regular , to build confidence put the whole litter in there and let them finish the hog. the next time u put a hog in front them. you will see your new dogs.

when to train is different depending on the dog. which in turn goes back to genetics-linebreeding. joey denison introduced his pups at 2 months to a pig. every couple weeks they went back . he documented this very well and if at 6 months they werent getting it done the were a cull. and he only bred the best. thats what made his bloodline so strong. this way has been proven over and over thru the years.cant argue that point b/c it works. so if u have to feed a dog till 18 months just to knowwhetner or not it will hunt. You are already losing time and money. I would consider a different pound or walmart.

Id be careful about your dogs baying at a cage. If ur dogs have any grit theyll break their teeth on the cage. catch the pig tie his back feet together, turn him loose and see what happens. if the dogs get him time after time, then u dont need atraining hog no more. If ur dogs dont have enough grit. put them in a pen with a rank boar w/cut teeth let him knock the fire out of them. I like grit, I like a dogs that will put the breaks on one. If they try to climb out of the pen. then u have to decide if they stay or if the go.

try deximethadone. itsa alot cheaper than anti venom and works on different snakes. cotton mouths and copperheads are one thing rattle snakes are a whole other. I had a bulldog struck by a eastern diamond back in the head. his head swole to the point of his hair falling out around the bite. I pd for 3 antivenoms. to no avail. the dog lived but was never the same. had tosend him to the farmer in atmore to live.
