1  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Breeding Better Dogs 101... on: April 16, 2016, 05:03:11 pm
Oconee, I don't raise hog dogs but I do raise  plenty of other creatures. Genetics have always intrigued me and I love to study the subject and ask questions and listen to anyone..... This is a great topic and I believe that you have contributed some helpful information but man if you self proclaim to be no expert quite acting like you are. There are thousands of species that have been bred many ways to come up with their respective breeds. Composites, line bred, in breed, best to to best, worst to worst and so on. If we as breeders want to truly breed better animals we need to hold some of our pride back when talking to others about their method of breeding lest we become blinded by what's in our own yard/pasture.  If we take our time to analyze each of the different formulas for breeding animals and follow the method that makes sense to us then add to or detract from it from other formulas we may just be able to have a hand in producing some fine animals, but with this whole your way or the highway attitude some guys will quit posting their information and experience because they don't wanna throw pearls before swine
2  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Papers!! Papers!!! Papers!!!! on: December 22, 2013, 08:15:13 pm
Some registries have a guideline as to how close you can line/inbreed the dogs.  This is why I decided to forget about the papers on my bird dogs.
That would be my guess as to what Reuben was talkin about
3  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Shock Collar on: December 21, 2013, 10:18:41 am
I've had great experiences with tri tronics and dogtra.  Started with sportdog and went through two different sets that wouldn't work correctly before switching. I've had some friends that have had the same experiences.
4  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: How do I teach a dog to roll out on another hog on: December 09, 2013, 09:07:23 pm
Gotta teach a pointer to point birds. Labs to retrieve.  Border collies to herd. Bulldogs to catch(whatever moves). A true game bred to be game.  A heeler to heel.  If specific trait are bred for intensely and extensively then yes someone could have a whole pack of rollin out dogs. But that is only one trait in a myriad of many traits that some one may or may not want and probably isn't the lone factor that is being bred for.
5  THE CLASSIFIEDS / CLASSIFIED ADS / 88 Chevy suburban on: March 17, 2013, 12:38:13 pm
I have a 88 Chevy suburban, 4x4, 6" lift 35x12.5x16 tires, little to no rust, basically perfect shape inside and out. I bought this truck about two years ago for a huntin truck, I drove it for about thre months then it has sat ever since. The battery won't hold a charge, and will need some new tires in the front pretty soon. I never got it tagged or anything so I'm in the middle of that right now getting taxes all paid up. I would like to trade it for an 88 or older Toyota flatbed and possibly a chance to go on a pig hunt. I'm in Kansas and it would be a drive but thought I'd try it out. I have a ton of pictures that I can e-mail just not sure how to load on here.
My number is 785-845-143
E-mail is jbseltmann@hotmail.com
Again I live in kansas but looking for good excuse to go on a hog hunt and hopefully get a more logical vehicle for my needs..if you would rather just pay cash then make an offer...
Thanks
Jesse
6  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: holiday drinks on: November 25, 2012, 01:51:52 pm
There's a lot of different ways from what I read, I tried my first batch yesterday and it was great.
1.5 gallons cider
1/2 gallon apple juice
2 cups sugar
8 cinnamon sticks
Bring to a boil, let simmer for( people said anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hrs) I let it simmer for an hour
Let it cool to room temp
Add 1 qt everclear

Start drinking
7  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / The end is in sight but still too far away on: June 21, 2012, 09:47:51 am
5th generation brick mason, dad owned a commercial masonry company for 25 years the stress and bull crap about killed him along with the sleepless nights. This is my fourth year in business and my wife and I have decided that this business will do more damage in the long run then good so we are getting out! Thank God ! Hopefully He will keep me sane through these last 2 1/2 months, while we try to deal with some of the worst cheating, lying, money hungry daddy didn't marry mommys I've ever done work for.
Family is more important than trying to make a dollar, my wife and kids mean everything to me and as a parent and husband it's our job to do what's best for our family. Time, patience, love, discipline those are some of the most important things in life. If anyone thinks that a getting paid well to give your family stuff is worth being gone all the time and even when you are home being too tired to get on the floor and play with the kids you're wrong. I've seen the toll it takes, from my dad doing it that way and how it hurt my mom, brother, and sister, to now me doing it and seeing my wife, and three babies pay for it.  I'm done with it!
Sorry for the rambling but I'm just excited, a little nervouse, and getting a little impatient, and I know some others on here have posted questions about jobs and careers just thought I'd share my little bit of life experience and reflection.  Do what you love may be harder but it'll be worth it
Thanks
Jesse

9  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Our government... damn sure not a Democracy... on: April 12, 2012, 11:13:09 pm
Charles, I agree that everything that we are discussing now is more than likely being monitored and in reallity th government has instituted enough crap into the law books that if they were so inclined we could all end up in prison or just disappearing.
You say that your not a leader your a grunt, not a politician, and you speak from the heart.
I myself would classify myself in a similar boat, but something that I know as fact is that this country doesn't need politians, or people that speak from there pocket book, or people that are afraid to get their hands dirty. I believe that the best leaders are the ones that are the best servants, the ones that have a standard, put there head down and push through.
I don't believe that there is a quick fix, or special drink to serve to get things back to they way they should should be to think that is just naive. I may live in a dream world but I do believe that there doesn't have to be a "new" idea but rather the original idea, and that if that was the basis then who (of the sane people) wouldn't join.
Maybe a multi state hunt should be held  Grin

This may sound juvenile but we do have a blueprint to follow for what is being proposed. Our forefathers did exactly what needs to happen again. If a group of men were willing to study that blue print together and make applicable changes to it to fit the modern age I believe that they could get a large number of Americans behind them. It seems as though this sight has enough like minded people from different states to potentially get something started.  As others have said before, it takes someone to take the lead, who will it be? Who knows? But I do believe that it can't be just one man, but a band of brothers with similar standards. Differing opinions are great as long as the main goals can be agreed on. I guess what I'm trying to is that I believe that with the discussions that are being held here that there seems to be a few people that want to stand up and make a difference, next step get serious and start discussing the goals of a new government, then go through the logistics of the process. Basically as a group get a plan on paper using the history of our forefathers to guide us

11  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: A little something to think about on: January 13, 2012, 03:19:15 pm
It actually encourages me to see you stand for what you believe, I haven't met many people that do or will.
I will listen/read anyone's opinion because knowledge can be gleaned from all of them. Honestly I can say that I am learning from you at this moment, some things that I may use and others I will not.
By your own admittance you DO live by a text that was written by a mortal man..."LONG LIVE THE CONSTITUTION". If you stood firmly on thie idea that "nothing written by another mortal shall bind me" then what keeps you from committing crime, getting a loan, buying a house or any number of things that require binding agreements and contracts, or are those made to be broken? I would like some clarification of what you actually ment by those statements.
Age has little to do with this conversation, life experience does however. Usually someone's age can be determined by how and what the communicate to others. It just so happens that most of the people that have lived longer have experienced more than those that haven't.

Happy birthday and the advice is much appreciated.    Sounds like you have at least another 35 years of catching pigs good luck and God bless
13  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: A little something to think about on: January 13, 2012, 02:37:29 pm
It is impressive that you seem to have taken your education as seriously as you have, it is also fortunate that you have been able to travel and experience other cultures. It is true that we as Americans are very fortunate to be in America and yes we do take a lot of our freedoms for granted.
Change also is a good thing, at times. Not always, yes this country has made progress in leaps and bounds while in the same stride have gone just as far backwards. When animals and criminals have rights that are similar to law abiding citizens, when "nature" is becoming more protected than people something is out of balance.
Public schools at all levels are influenced by government, government is influenced by money, and those with the most money want their ideas and standards pushed to the forefront so that they can profit the most.
You do make some valid points, the problem is that you admittedly do not believe in absolutes "I'm on the side of whoever I'm comfortable with" , this country was founded with biblical principles therefore it was founded on absolutes.  When people with no absolutes and a relativistic mindset started gaining power in the government this country started a steady decline.( yes it is still the greatest country in the world in my opinion) but it does need people to step up and take an active role to make the progress that we have made seem like true progress.
I'm not as smart as you are, or as well educated, or apparently as wealthy. But I've learned as much as I could in school and now that I'm out of school I receive an even greater education from the people I talk to, difficulties in business, time hunting behind dogs or a rifle, in church, in books, with my wife and kids.
I do like these boards and the variety of opinions and the ability to state mine. What bugs me is when a person no matter how old or young comes in and starts talking with the kind of arrogance and pride that has been evident in all of your posts in this thread.
