It is also interesting that your males are the ones to start quicker, I guess different breeds may develope in different manners. This may also be another question do your males oe females develope quicker, and what breed do you have? I have raised hounds in the past and mine was females were almost always the faster to start. I know have fiest, cur cross dogs and the same seems to be true with the strain that I have.

Thanks, for your replys. The only reason i asked is because I was lucky enough to be there for the whole whelping process this time. An I have never really taken notice of any of these things before.
3  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / just wondering? on: March 01, 2012, 09:13:44 pm
I have read many articals by people on this sight in that area of breeding and rasing pups. I have a litter of my squirrel dogs that are 2 wks. old. I have been noticing a few things in this two week peroid. First I noticed one pups eyes open at about the first week, this also happened to be the first one born in the litter. Today i noticed all the females eyes were opened and the males are not yet. Just so happens the three females were born before the two males. Have any of you breeders taken notice of how your pups growth progresses in reference to the order in which they were born? And if this quicker develoment shows up as a factor in other areas of development(ie mabey they are an alpha dog, or female, or they seem to be faster to start or slower, and if in your mind they are a better dog in the long run). I know on the average males are slower to develop than females, but I am really talking about the order in which they are born more so than male verses female. Just wondering.

I do hunt them. They are from Calvin Boutte. I will try to post some pics from my sons phone. Blood lines are Kemmer stock cur, Mullins fiest, Tripletts. These are some well bred pups. They are slso known as Cajun Squirrel dogs.

Finished my whelping box just in time. My female had puppies. 5 total. 2 males one brindle and one tiger striped, and 3 females tiger striped. These are TN. MT. Hybreds, my squirrel dogs. Doing well for a first litter for this mom. We will see if she can keep the all.

Wooooowwww getting hot in here, um if anyone has closed kennel's most of the time its because at one time thay probably did sell some pups to people that just put them In a pen or on the Chan for 2 yrs never letting them off or working them and then one day thay decided thay was gonna go hog hunting and the dog just walked with them and the next thing you no the guy is running his head about how sorry your dogs are and ruining your name. I completely understand the reason people don't sell dogs. Hope that all works out for you papa hope you can find you some dogs. Myself I kind of like the idea of keeping the hog hunting to my self seems like all the TV crap on hog dogging has got everyone thinking there hog hunters.
I like your post bayed hard, makes me understand I have a long way to go to even get started. I need to learn alot more so I will keep on reading, and every once in a while I too may chime in, and show just how much I DON'T KNOW.
9  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: DAVID THOMS DOGS on: February 15, 2012, 11:27:41 pm
Can not see the begging in my statment, however it's in how it is received. My statment is not a bitter one as you have mistaken it for. It is not even about those good breeders. It's about the same ones who chime in with the same old same old You ain't one of us, so you must have an angle. These are the same ones that probably are not those good breeders. I am not some young pup who wants it all now and my way, I am an older man who sees things in a different fashion. I am not a hog dogger yet, but I am not new to the world of hunting dogs either. I do understand paying my dues, and I will. However I do see a difference in this dog sport than others I have experienced(and I do not wish to change it) and It is in the attitude. I read an artical by a member who said in so many words that he had become an A$$ Hole because of this sport. It was in the area of trying to protect his hunting lands, and his strain of dogs. And he has every right to do so. Now from some of the other posts that followed his a few others agreed that they understood this, and could see it in themselves also. There are good guys, and bad guys in this sport, like in all other sports also. I am not begging, and I don't want the quick fix number one dog right now, but I do want as good a dog as I can afford(as you said) and work from there. I also do not think it's anyones place to tell someone you may be in it for the wrong reason,  If you feel I was out of place , then you may also be there too. But no harm no foul on my part I do not take it to heart. If I have offended anyone well that was never my intention, but I stand by what I have written. If you read it again(and by no means do you have to) you will see it is written from the point of view of those who I spoke of before, the same old same old. Thank you for your reply.

I'll say this for the fellas who always  chime in on the  the guy who asks this same question on wright's, or thom's dogs.   yall sure can steer the wagon when yall are riding the mule in the back. what they tell you is there are these guys that breed better dogs but they have closed kennels. You have to try and find them first, then if you are lucky enuff to do so, he may shoot ya if you show up at his kennel trying to buy a pup, and if he don't shoot ya you will need to scoop dog crap, and water and feed dogs, follow him to the woods and kiss most of his dogs butts before he will even think about letting your greatgrand son buy a pup from him in the year 2099.  But don't you dare buy from them big time dog peddlers. Now if this guy takes a likeing to you he will give you a pup, but fat chance of that happening. And if he does give you a pup  then what, am I gonna run it with so called lesser or bad dogs. I do understand that all of these breeders of great strains of hog dogs are not gonna give away their 30 or so years of breeding experience to us newbies, but like I said before I do not think we should have to take all the dam  culls, and or crap dogs and waste our time and money on that crap. I have been very quiet for a while and have been reading and listening to all the breeding talks, and styles of dogs, and breed types, and cross types, I have even tried to get some pups. I have even looked at and talked to some of the guys that have ooopppps breedings. I have decided to just hold off for another 6 months to a year, try to make a friend or so on this site, and maybe try to work my way into getting to follow on a few hunts. But after I post this statment I may become black balled by all the good ones, but so be it. I ask this question one more time "If these great breeders do not want to be found, or they do not want to sell their blood lines then what ?" We have to start somewhere, If we buy bad blooded dogs then who will want to hunt with us, only the guys with the bad dogs, surely not any of you so called good ones. Would it not be better for the good ones to understand if they want this great sport to live on then make sure that this new person is a hog dogger for sure number one, then make sure he is dedicated to the health and care of dogs, and that he is gonna respect the land owners and the law, and then help him along in some way or fashion. I am not saying we should walk in and you give us the keys, we need to prove ourselves just as I stated above. But I sure am tired of hearing alot of this you can't get them good ones cause you ain't one of us. But don't go elsewhere and spend your money on dem pappered up dogs cause they ain't worth a crap. For some of you, NOT ALL, I wish you'd make up your dad blame minds. You either love this sport enough to pass it on or you love it just enough to keep it to youself. This is just my opinion and yep it stinks too, and I have not proven myself enough to be considered good enough to lead anyones dogs....... YET.

Many, many men and women have given their lives for you to be able to have that education, and the ability to have the freedoms that you so richly enjoy. If you do not live by the written word of a man then you are part of the problem this USA has. You are in my opinion are part of the me generation, if it's not about me first then it means nothing to me. I will repeat you are part of the bigger problem. I do not hate you I feel sorry for you because one day, as others have stated< the real world will kick in and you may have to rethink things. I hope God continyes to bless you, and I pray that he will open your closed eyes.

I feed her all she wants when she starts to show i feed sportmix blue bag mixed with milk replacer and give her a couple pet-cal tabs a day to help with milk production
Thanks
14  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Pregnet Gyp on: January 15, 2012, 11:31:48 am
While pregnant I feed them a high quality dog food...sportsmix black bag or blue bag...about two weeks before whelping I give a slice of beef liver three times a week along with her dog food.

Once pups are born I feed her all she wants to eat two or three times a day...the more the pups suckle the more food she needs...also needs plenty of water to replace body fluids and make milk...
Thanks.

I do not own  hog dogs, I do have squirrel dogs. Tn. Mt> Hybreds. I bred my gyp, and I am wondering what you guys use to help gyps in the feeding area. When I had beagles I used calf mana. I am feeding 21% dog food on a self feeder. Been out of the dog game for awhile, so I am sure there are better things out there in this area. Let's see what ideas yall have.

Don't get me started on those a-holes. It literally took me yelling, cussing, and threatening Jackie Bushman's welfare to get them to quit calling me every single day, several times a day.

Every time i see this topic come up (which it does regularly) i cringe.  It never fails, people get upset, then the "What Ifs" start.   I would be extremly upset if one of my dogs were shot, at MYSELF.  After all it is my responsibility to ensure their safety,  but i will say this:

It makes hog doggers sound ignorant to say "If one of my dogs are shot i would cut the person's throat".  Seriously?  Why would anyone think its ok to kill a person for killing a dog?  I understand some people post that out of frustration, but think of how it makes us look as a whole.  The mods are always on here telling us people use this site against us, so please even if you THINK (and i use the word think, because shooting a person aint the same as shooting a dog, deer, hog etc..) you would do that... DONT POST IT..

Mods, why not shut these topics down when they start goin down this road.. It jsut makes us all look bad.

OH THIS WAS NOT MEANT AS A DEBATE ITS MY OPINION, IM ENTITLED TO IT, AND WILL NOT POST FURHTER ON THIS SUBJECT.
