Justin: It was a canebrake. I was just curious as to what the error was. Thanks for the heads up for when I am in Tx
Dub: He says he has done it since he was 10. After watching him catch both, I would rather give the rattler a chance. I didnt see the rattler even open his mouth, but the moccasin never closed his lol. He was one mad/mean SOB.
canebrake rattler and timber rattler are the same snake and are Illegal to kill in the US 10,000 in fines and 180 days in jail.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Worse thing for a pup

I don't agree with the hole once month thing man at all a pup doesnt need to even need to go tthe bay pen once he has it down an knows what a hog is I guess if it works for you then good i'm a firm believer that each time that dog is in the woods with a lead dog that is finished to your standards he is going to learn now I would recommend just one pup at a time when in woods this has just been the way I have been taught but every body has different ways I'm stiking with what works for me
The pen really wasn't the question and honestly I don't think it matters whether you have a finished dog with your pups or not. A lot of people don't have access to prime, hog rich, hunting land. Some people may go 4 to six weeks ( hunts ) without seeing a hog and that's with good finished dogs. If your pup is well bred he is going to have a strong prey drive. If hogs aren't being located, pup will find something to hunt. I just think your doing more harm than good by running hunt after hunt and not getting pup on the preffered game, this is my point. i think the best thang to do for a pup is PUT IT IN THE WOODS hogs or no hogs let them hunt

i was thinking of a HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, never had one but they look well built and could take some abuse,, I like the singel shot easy simple, one shot one kill
h&r 357 would work good and you dont have to worry about it passing through and hitting a dog like on the other rounds

I was wondering if there is any way to make a dog stop catching and allow it to still be gritty I will appreciate all feed back
how old is the dog? most dogs will tame with age. the worst thing you could do is shock him. if you think about it when you shock him, aint that just like trash brakin the dog off hogs?

Usually dogs like that have been beat pretty good but sometimes it just takes some TLC or a little more attention.. not saying you dont but thats just what it sounds like. I have a dog kindda like that but hes been like that since he was a puppy on the ride home he winned the whole way. But with time hes gotten over it.
i dont think thats true at all just because its skiddish dont mean it has been beat. i think its genetics most of the time. i have seen dogs bread that were spooky and all the pups were the same way. most dogs will grow out of it but it does take alot of time.

50-50 maybe for some breeds like,,,,,, well never mind, pits got to have the lowest culls of all i put my money on it,let us know how he does 4 ya
yes i bet thats true but i think it is because they were being culled hard befor they were ever a catch dog and because alot of people dont cull like they need to they "make it work" because hes big or a good looking dog to tell the truth i have culled ALOT more pits than any other dogs and one of my best catch dogs was a 7 year old cur dog and he was killed by my best pit in the first fight the pit ever got in and his last
