HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Automatic feeders??
|
on: April 01, 2014, 11:03:10 pm

Think it kind of depends on the dog. All my yellow dogs are on automatic feeders and they ration it well. They don't gorge themselves or eat more than they normally would. They just pick at it here and there as needed. The catch dogs however got kicked off the auto feeder because they got to fat to move. Cuts down on work load, feed three every day, and the rest once a week. Automatic rationed feeder might be a good idea for the CD's though. Anthony

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Coyotes busting up a bay!

On the places we hunt there are quite a few coyotes. We've had them sit and wait for us to get to the bay and kill the pig prolly cause they know they are gonna get an easy meal. Only had one try and bust a bay, it was a female and I assume they were bayed close to a den. She came out and tried to fight the dogs and picked the wrong one. Never did find her den, but if she had unweaned pups I doubt they made it. Anthony

Need to get all the information you can, police reports, shooter statement, witness statements if there are any, all that stuff. Hire an attorney with civil background in similar cases if you can find one in your area. Was the dog where he was supposed to be? If not, criminal charges will most likely not be filed. Unless you can prove malice, which will be tough. If criminal isn't going to happen, filing for damages is civil court is going to be about your only option. Anthony

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Garmin DC30 - Factory vs. Long Range Antenna

H&H hunting supply has some new ones that outperform the standards by .50 of a mile, they are pretty thick wire.
Is this based on your own testing? Try this, 10ga stranded copper wire 21" long, #4-#6 post ring terminal, and a heat shrink butt connector at the end. That's what I make mine from and they easily out preform the factory antenna. Anthony

Papers are a matter of preference, if someone wants them or not is completely up them as is what they are willing to spend. Papers, hand written or registered, when used properly are a way to keep track of breedings, bloodlines, and crosses. As for the increase in price of a registered dog, that is up to the breeder and what they think they are worth, and up to the buyer and what they are willing to spend. For example, I bred one of the crosses that have been working really really well for me and my style of hunting. The few pups out of that litter that will be for sale will be at $1,000. That's my price. May not be acceptable to all, but hey, everyone doesn't own the litter, I do. If someone wants one of the pups that's great, if they don't like them, don't wanna spend that much, or don't want papers I could care less, not gonna hurt my feelings and I hope they find what they are looking for. In the end it's up to what a person buying a dog wants and what a person breeding a dog is willing to sell it for, why cry about papers your not breeding, dogs your not raising, and money your not spending? Modified two wheel cart, works every time no matter how big the pig live or dead. 250 pound pig feels about the same as walking backwards with a push mower. Super sandy ground or up and down hills is a little tougher, but not much at all. My dogs would look at me about the same as they do when we cross a field of nothing but stickers, that "your kidding me right" look, if I tried to get them to drag one after finding it. Lol Anthony

What is interesting to me is that here we have this thread which has 87 replies and 2023 views, and all it really is is another barrs or no barrs thread. Yet there is another post about different laws that are being developed to make what we do illegal. That thread has 3 replies and 173 views even though it was posted a day before this one. Perhaps we have our priorities in the wrong place. By the time we as hunters get done bickering and figure out wether or not barrs should be used to make sausage or win tournaments it might be illegal to even hunt them, or boars and sows for that matter. Perhaps it's time to place this energy somewhere it can do some good for all of us as hunters. I know I would much rather be able to hunt 365 days a year and not be forced to retire all od my dogs versus worrying about a 3 day tournament that no one is forced to enter. Anthony

I'm from Devine, little south of San Antonio. I sold him to a guy north of marble falls a few years ago.
@thg, yea, I really hope we don't have them this year like last. I killed at least one on almost every hunt, have a cup full of rattles from just this past year. It was ridiculous. Anthony

Nice pics, like the rattler. Getting to be about that time. Usually get 5 or six that come up in the front yard. What's the name of the blue dog in the pic, reminds me of one I used to have? Anthony

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Trespassing
|
on: February 21, 2013, 09:35:41 pm

There seems to be a lot of thought going into this subject for something that seems simple. If you get a ticket for trespassing and want to know if it is under game law or regular criminal law just look at the situation.
1- who wrote the citation, a regular cop or a game warden?
2- were you actively hunting or doing something that had to with hunting when you committed the violation?
3- were you somewhere you were not supposed to be?
If you answer these questions as, I was givin a ticket by a game warden while hunting and ended up somewhere I wasn't supposed to be, then obviously your ticket is directly related to the hunting you were doing and there fore becomes a game law violation. Getting a ticket for trespassing is just like any other misdemeanor, it doesn't make you a good or bad person, just means that you got a ticket. No different than speeding or running a stop sign. I'm sure just about anyone hunter or not has at some point been in a situation where he or she could have gotten a ticket for something minor such as simple trespassing. We can all "what if" any situation, but at the same time while we "what if" it we must also pay attention to the common sense of the situation and take it for what it is. Whoever got the ticket, I feel for ya, tickets suck no matter what they are for, just seems to me to be a lot of discussion over something that is pretty easy to see. Anthony

I think it goes on a case by case basis. Though trespassing may or may not be a direct "game law", wardens can use discretion just like any other officer. If you are stopped by a warden hunting somewhere you aren't supposed to be a warden can give you a ticket for trespassing and hunting or taking game without permission. He or she can use their discretion and give you a ticket for everything you are doing wrong or be more lenient and just give you one for a lesser offense. It's no different than when you get stopped for speeding and the officer gives you a ticket for an inspection or registration sticker instead. You were still ticketed, just for a cheaper and lesser offense. So, as far as hunting, if you are actively hunting and you get stopped by a warden and get a ticket for trespassing, you were hunting somewhere you weren't supposed to be, and hunting involves game, and to me that puts that violation in the "game law" category. What was posted above is true. The further you get south towards Pleasanton the higher the rent is going to be due to oilfield demand. I'd your looking for a rent house with land I would consider some of the close small towns like Lytle, Castroville, and any others that are 20-30 minutes away. You can also do a google search of realty offices in the smaller towns. Sometimes they can point you in the direction of rental property owners that may have something in that area. Anthony
