Ummm I thought those dogs were free,I'm still fairly new to this but are they your best because they hit the ground finding hogs or because they're your only dogs?? :DI was practically given all my dogs a while back and considered breeding my young male(rangey and not real gritty) to my finished, no more then nip female(what I like). but, the guy I got them from said to wait and see what the male does after he matures. Sure enough, he started opening up and started riding the back tire and waiting for a bay(not what I want) either wait give them s couple years and you may find you have more dog then you can handle or not enough. Jmo...not trying to rub you the wrong way, just telling you've what I've learned..... Btw,breeders ask a pretty penny for proves reg plott, but then again the have the reputation to back it up or will show the parents hunt....at least anyone I would consider giving hundreds of dollars for a bigger dog food bill. JMO. Like I said, I'm still new to the sport

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Respect the beep

May favorite feature of the tri tronic is the beeper button! Since my young dogs have learned to associate the beep with a little juice it has mad breaking bad behaviors easier and easier. Really helps with the small stuff like growling/barking in the box. Still have to give them a little buzz on dillos but did stop a couple with the beep. Jut thought of see if anyone else likes this feature as much as I do...helps you find a collar in the truck too

A buddy of mine just had a litter of 1/2bluetick 1/4bmc 1/8cat 1/8dogo hit the ground. They came out with a lot of black and white that I'm sure will start to show ticks. Want to see some other crosses like this...not exact of course but who knows

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Convincing dogg to catch
|

gotta talk em into it so to speak. If you get a hog you know they will catch just talk to em when they catch. whatever you want the command to be. then move up to a bigger hog. so forth and so on.
It just takes talkin to an lots of hogs , I had catahoula that would bay till he hear you coming then catch or I could yell at Him to catch if I wanted , get you pig an get close an start talkin to them Tellin them to get it They should learn
Sounds like I need to start training in a pen some. I'm not going to lie since I've gotten into this 95% of all the training I've done has been throwing young dogs straight into the woods with the rest of them....might be where I went wrong

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Convincing dogg to catch
|
on: July 11, 2012, 01:42:29 am

I've read about telling their baydogs to catch. How is this done? I've got two males on the rougher side and I am low on cds. They will catch under 150 together. Any advise on how I could start trying to motivate them to catch would be great. Thanks!
