Where you located?
kirvin. im kyle we talked a couple times through ty mc adams. if this is clayton ?
Where abouts around Kirvin? We have a place over there leased we hunt sometimes, but it has seemed like the last few times we have went someone has been trespassing and hunting there themselves...really pisses us off!! But we put up some game cameras so we can catch them!! So if you ever see someone pulling into a place off of that hiway from Kirvin to Wortham that look like hunters let us know!!! lol
4  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Who hunts with all or mostly lacy dogs? on: May 07, 2013, 03:39:42 pm
Sorry Ashley, I don't think I will ever not have a set of hounds that being said I know thay run past hogs trailing up one. I almost want to try some bull/bird dog. But then I can sell purebred dogs. I got some ruff hairy ones now that are doing pretty good. Besides I'm researching a little 20 years ago a lot of people hunted Lacys. I think the YBMC have elvolded along with the pigs giving them advantage over other breeds.
We got a couple half hound 1/4 leopards, 1/4 lacy i think and they are some gritty, gritty dogs!!! The only reason we got them is because the old man didnt want them and he was going to shoot them so we said we would take them and start them and see if we could find them a home! We dont want them because they dont fit our pack. Im afraid they will get long range! We love our BMCs!! You ought to see that brindle dog hunt that we brought that one time we came and hunted!!! Hes turned into a heck of a strike dog!!!

Ha Dustin, I just won't hardly walk down the most traveled road! Im always going to be a little different sometimes it's not a good thing.
This is Ashley!! Hey we are walking down a different road from our pack...got a couple hound crosses that are fixin to need new homes! They arent going to fit our pack!!! Made me think of you when we got them!!! Hows the family doing?
6  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Tips for raising multiple puppies on: May 07, 2013, 08:57:44 am
We kept a couple pups out of one of our litters. We didnt do anything special, we kept them together in a big pen and fed them together and we would let them out daily to run and play and mingle with the other dogs! Just pretty much let them be puppies!! We didnt seperate them till about 2 months ago mainly because we needed their pen and it was time for them to learn how to be on a chain and handle on the end of a lead. They are 9 months old now. We have been hunting them a bunch so we cant really let them run and play anymore because they will take off hunting!! So they get treated like the older dogs now and put on the walker to exercise!!

8  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Parents first hunt!!! on: May 06, 2013, 10:31:04 am
My parents and brother came in for the weekend and my brother wanted to go hunting, hes been before but my parents never have!!! It was a trip and we had a blast!! We turned out Saturday morning and caught 2 by 10:30. A boar that would have went about 250 with good sized cutters and a sow that was about 100 lbs. We got all the dogs loaded went and ate lunch. We went to another place and within the first 30 minutes of being there caught another little sow that weighed probably 85. Didnt even need the catch dogs!! All in all it was a pretty good day! We quit hunting about 2:30 and went home! No one got hurt!! LOL Except my mom got a black eye running through the woods...she should have ducked sooner and the branch wouldnt have got her!! LOL
9  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Chains vs Kennels Housing Dogs on: May 06, 2013, 08:19:56 am
We start our young ones on a chain. To get them used to being tied up and they seem to handle a little better. Then they get moved to the kennels off the ground. But right now we are short kennels so we leave the young ones chained!!
10  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Trash breaking school on: May 03, 2013, 03:09:19 pm
I was asking for a school, not a shock system, this dog doesn't stay around your feet and you hardly ever see him, I'd hate to shock him not knowing what he was barking at.

Walk hunt him and like hoghunter said make an effort to stay up with him, if hes trashing shock him...or hunt him with people that have trash broke dogs...we have a yella dog that will come back if another dog is trashing. If hes not with them when they bay, he will go to them. When he gets there and sees they are trashing he will come back to us. Thats how we trash break all ours is with him, and being in the woods with them!!

12  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Gettin started!! on: May 03, 2013, 10:40:50 am
started off riddin 4 wheeler with my step dad at 8 and helpin train dogs started goin with it just being me and my brother when i was 10 and have always used black mouth cur dog and a dogo and some mule tape, I firmly believe that a black mouth is the best hunting dog around but ive gotten used to havein a little size for a catch dog as in a dogo or my american bulldog

Yes I agree! I think they are the best too!!! Nothing against the other breeds thats just what we like! Our catch dogs are straight pits. They are about 45 lbs. which we think is big enuf for us because a couple of our bay dogs will catch when they catch and we have a help dog we always run with them that catches!!
13  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Gettin started!! on: May 03, 2013, 09:00:53 am
LOL!!! Great stories and pics!!! Well here is how we got started....

A little background history...growing up we hunted deer, but nothing with dogs. Didnt really have a hog problem around us! When we moved out here about 5 years ago we heard a little about it but didnt really pay any mind to it! About a year and half ago my husbands boss gave him a dog...a brindle curr about 6 mnths old...he didnt want him because he was tearing everything up!! lol So my husband said he would take him. I kinda frowned on the deal because we already had 4 dogs that were pets and a barn full of horses...I think secretly he was wanting to start a pack of hog dogs!! I told him not no but HELL NO!! I didnt want a bunch of barking ass dogs chained all over our place!! And I didnt want to take a chance of them getting loose and running horses and all that. Well this pup, who we call Ammo, bayed everything in sight when he was turned loose! Drove me crazy!!! Well we had some friends down the road that had some hunting dogs and they invited us along to hunt one day...so we went. The hubby was all excited! Of course we didnt catch anything, but it kinda sparked my interest...I love being outdoors...so we started talking to an old timer thats a really good friend that used to hog hunt all the time. He said we could build a bay pen at his house to start our pup, Ammo. So we did. And now we are hooked!!!! From the first time we took him to the pen he bayed his ass off!!! And there was something about watching him work that I just loved! So we started taking him to the woods with our friends' dogs...poor guy didnt stand a chance. Hunted with them 6 months and never found a hog. The dogs would trash and of course him being young he just did what they did. The old timer told us we needed to stop hunting him with their dogs so we did. We didnt hunt him till we got a shock collar and found someone with a trash broke dog...Just so happened this friend had a dog given to him because this person owed him money...well he saw the potential in Ammo and let us have that dog to train pups with. Thats where Yella comes in the picture!! Another curr dog!! Now this dog is a different deal!!! When I say trash broke he is trash broke 100%...a lot of people say thats impossible but he is...it took us a while to figure out how to hunt him because he wouldnt really go out and hunt! Well we had gone back and hunted with those people again and he wouldnt hunt with their dogs because they trashed the whole time!! Needless to say they cussed our dog and said he was a p.o.s. because he wouldnt go out and hunt with their dogs!! He knew better! Sooo they dont speak to us anymore!! We have finally learned how to hunt him and he has found a ton of hogs for us and trained our pups well!! Ammo and Yella are are our main men!! Both BMCs! Thats all we run and will always run that breed!! Those friends gave us a mountain curr because they didnt like her, so we bred her to Ammo. We kept 2 pups out of them and they are awesome! Real gritty and at 8 months old already finding their own hogs!! The male is suicidal, he will catch anything! The female got hurt a while back so she will bay till the catch dog hits then she catches! SOOO needless to say me saying no to it all didnt last long!!! I absolutley love it!!! There is nothing better than seeing dogs you started and raised be so successful!!! Its as good as seeing a colt you train go on to be a winner!! Which that is all we used to do and still do some!! Sorry for long story!! It just amazes me how far us and our dogs have come over the last year!! We are by no means professionals but we love it and our dogs find hogs!! lol

18  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Keeping Dogs In Shape? on: May 01, 2013, 03:16:46 pm
the dog treadmills would be sweet to own , but you can get hit pretty hard in the pocket book owning one   lol

What do you mean by this?

I meant just that they [ the ones I looked at  ] are pretty pricey for just a tread mill , and a garage sale treadmill can be had for a little bit of nothing  [ the older ones ] without all the computer stuff on them  . me I use to just load the dogs up a couple at a time in the summer and go swimming no better way to condition muscle tone in a dog  .

I think that is what Im going to do this summer...swim them...I can fill up a metal water trough or take them to the tanks and swim them! They will stay cool while exercising! It will help build their wind up too, or at least it does for the horses!!
