HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Conditioned dogs.

First and foremost , its wise to make sure the dog is worm and parasite free. I think it rather behooves one who is conditioning a dog, to contour/tailor the work at least somewhat toward it's competition. Since we cannot do that to any exactness , I think tailoring their work to certain expressions of energies they will expend, is probably wise. So, while even a dog that seems to pace itself well may seem just right, that dog STILL will have to display bursts of energy at times during the hunt. And, I believe a work regimen which is rather contoured to this is beneficial come crunch time. I believe wind sprints to be a part of that tailoring. It's one of the few things we can do in order to condition for such energy expenditures. There are other devices and exercises which can be used for similar results, but I believe wind sprints belong right in there with them.

I would use a betadine/iodine mix , a round of antibiotics, wouldnt waste my time with pen, I would start off with amox. 1 / 250mg every 12hrs. , keep the cuts clean, and dont let it scab up, it needs to heal from the inside out.
I am no vet by any means, but these are things I would do.

If you are going to feed raw pork you must freeze it for about 30 days due to possible parasitic exposure.

Assumsing you have the dog wormed out, this recipe usually packs on weight..
Satin Balls 10 lbs cheap hamburger (high fat %) 1 large box uncooked oatmeal (I generally use about 3/4 of the box) 12 raw eggs 1 15oz jar wheat germ 10 packages Knox unflavored gelatin 1 cup vegetable oil 1 cup salmon oil 1 and 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses 4 cups cooked brown rice
I roll these into about baseball size patties and freeze.

Looks good and Im gld that pupp took to it good.. I would suggest maybe using some side boards/walls to prevent the dog jumping off or losing concentration. Also, I would be sure to empty the dog out before the walk/run on the E-Mill (electric treadmill) Good luck!!!

What part of the wood are they chewing? posts? framing? maybe try wrapping a thick gage sheet metal or angle iron?
Im not fan of hard keepers like that, as stuff like that can ruin ther own hardware (teeth). So good luck
