1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Stealing dog pics and claiming them as their own? on: July 28, 2014, 08:57:03 am
The best part about claiming other peoples dog photos is you don't have to feed em!
2  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Heli hunter on: June 17, 2014, 07:03:11 pm
I don't think I would like it if they were shooting around the places I hunt either.

But there is two sides to the coin and they are putting a big dent in the population where land owners don't want the pigs.  It is not traditional but effective.

The local farms that I hunt give us a badge that say "hog eradication team" and that what we try our best to do or they will find someone else who will.

The episode that I saw they had trucks on the ground picking hogs up and I believe they mentioned donating the meat.

I'll be the first to go against the grain and say I would jump in the chopper if I had an opportunity.

Cajunl that's what I'm thinking as a read this.

I like to hunt with my tight group of friends but hell sometimes I want to see what my dog will do along side your dogs.  And I'll high five yah when we flip him.
5  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Newby question on using hounds. on: April 18, 2014, 06:10:27 pm
My local farms aren't big enough for my cold nosed hounds.  Before  I knew better I tried it.  I have a walker that winds from the box and I have thought about bringing him to some of the farms to ride and wind, then turn the other dogs loose.  We using him at the hunting lease to find hogs and turn the young hounds out with high success.  Might just have to try it with the cur dogs.

My boy Mac.. He's 8 now and still has the energy of a puppy.  I left the front door open by accident last week  going to work and when I got home he was laying outside on the front mat.
8  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: dog box design, input/critique welcome on: March 09, 2014, 09:23:35 pm
Looks good.  The drop down top gate will be nice.  I designed the box I just build with ideas from several boxes I have used with friends and a swinging gate can be a real headache!

I have plans to build a similar box for a Ranger.  Not sure of all the details yet but I'm thinking we are going to use the polaris lock and ride holes to secure the box to the bed.   We also have thrown around the idea of have storage under the box.

Eager to see how your box turns out.

Hoghunter I'm from Polk county. Mulberry..

Stickin swine, yes that was me.  I had a dog in that block and was holler her out when you your pup came to me.. We went up and down that road trying to get close to my dog and the pup follow so I figured I'd see if she had a number.. Glad you got the dog back!

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Justincorbell, I can't take all the credit.  My brother has most of the skills.  I came to him with what I wanted to do and he designed the box using a computer program (he's a mechanical engineer) and then we built it from the plans he made.

Charles I'm estimating about $500 in total material: aluminum, stainless hinges and locking latches, rivets, filler rods, and welding gas.  The rivets were used to attach the latches, hinges and diamond panels to the doors only the rest was welding using a miller tig machine.

Yes you are right I haven't decided on the divider material yet.  I have seen some expanded aluminum that looks nice but may just go with some sheet.  I think plywood would ruin a good thing ha

Loading and unloading my old steel 3 bay by myself and with other often became a chore so I was inspired to build something lighter!  I left enough room between the box and cab for a tool box I plan to get in the future.  The top frame work is built to bolt a flush boat seat mount for a top rider (shotgun man) when running hounds at our lease.  The top rail folds flush with the doors for easy loading.  Stainless hinges and locking latches.  Only thing I'm lacking is skinning the dividers an adding some pop up style tie downs and rigging hooks to the top.  I like how it turned out!

I have a warn so can't speak for other brands but get synthetic rope if you can.  So much nicer
20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: freeze branding? on: December 25, 2013, 01:55:35 pm
Also remember the skin will stretch as they grow.  A friend of mine branded a younger pup and now her brand is nearly double the size of the rest of the dogs
