1  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / 2 old dogs- 100% trash broke and will do it by themselves on: September 27, 2022, 05:41:33 am
11 yr old 1/2 plott x 1/2 parker cur - Will take a track but doesn’t want to hunt hard anymore. 100% trash broke and will not run a deer at all. Will tell on other dogs if they are on trash. He will come back to you. Very loose, will not touch a hog.

10 yr old 1/2 BMC x 1/4 plott x 1/4 parker - Niece to above dog. Still hunts hard and is 100% trash broke. A little gritty.

Both dogs are only good for 1 hard hunt a week and have been mostly road hunted. Both are silent. If someone has some young dogs they are trying to finish out, these dogs would work good.  Both dogs were born here and have great handle. Getting rid of them because I am hunting 6, 5 and 1 yr old dogs out of them. They are just sitting in kennel.

9 yo dog. Bmc x 1/4 plott. Cut her Achilles’ tendon 2 years ago and surgery didn’t take. Kept her to get a litter of puppies. Vet recommended taking the leg off if I wanted to hunt her. Finished and trash broke. Hunts very good but leg slows her down a lot. Will do it by herself.

3  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Need help with diagnosis- very strange problem on: March 07, 2017, 07:13:23 am
Tick is what we believed by just reading, but have never had a issue with ticks. Have plenty of them, just no sickness before. Vet stuck with his diagnosis of anaerobic bacteria. Second dog is heading to different vet right now. Thanks
4  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Need help with diagnosis- very strange problem on: March 07, 2017, 05:36:40 am
Friend of mine had a dog that had both shoulders swell up. We have 40 yrs expierience between us. Have never seen anything like it. I'm talking about swelling that looks like a cartoon muscle dog or something, massive.  The dog was hunted in the morning. Was a little stiff that evening, and completely swollen the next evening. The vet put 4 tubes in the shoulders to allow fluid buildup to drain. Bloodwork was sent off 3 times. Dog was put on antibiotics. Vet kept saying it was some sort of anerarobic bacteria. Dog did not get better in 9 days. Dog was in pain the whole time and could barely move. Decision was made to put dog down. Seemed like a once in a million occurance or something. We hunted yesterday and a dog is showing the same symptoms. The location of the hunt is 50 miles away from previous occurance. Has anyone ever had this happen to a dog and know what is going on, how to treat it?
5  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / 7 yr old strike dog and 7 yr old catch dog on: May 09, 2016, 09:40:09 pm
Both dogs born on my yard.

Strike dog is a red cur dog, 55# 3/4 blackmouth x 1/4 Parker cur. Will find and bay hogs alone. Use to be a very busy dog and hunt out around 200-400 yards. He now hangs around closer till he hits sign. I have a few of his offspring that are 3-4 yrs old and he seems content to let them do most of the work finding the hogs. Will still take a track a long way. Has lots of bottom. Have not been hunting him as much due to having many younger dogs. After a hard hunt he will limp on front right due to previous injury and needs a couple days rest. Broke off deer and livestock. Will still catch a coon on the ground sometimes. Not real catchy if a hog bays but is pretty gritty if a hog breaks. $1,500

Catch dog is 85# 1/2 Dogo 1/2 AB. Straight ear and extremely well mannered. Will walk with you to bay without lead. Trained with e-collar. Broke around livestock. After broke off a hog he can be left loose while tying hog. Will follow you out while dragging live hog. Have not been using him because I have two 2 yr old littermates that are related to him that I am hunting. Has the teeth of a 7 yr old catch dog. Most all are there and most all are broke. Has no problem catching. $300

Am not able to hunt much right now. But can show in the woods ( Monday's and Tuesday's are the best for me right now)

This is a picture that came off a cell phone. Skeptic also but hard to explain. A guy I worked with took the picture in his living room.

12  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Day of dog shopping on: May 11, 2010, 01:53:41 pm
I was talking to a guy about a dog and this is what took place. Got the times off my cellphone.

3:33 I called him and got his address, told him I would be there in 1.5-2 hrs. He is at home with his wife at this time.

4:03 He calls and asks if I left yet, told him I was just leaving and would be there in about 1 hr

5:10 He calls to see were I am at, says he is tied up shoeing horses 41 miles from his house. He will have his wife get the dog for me.

Red flags going up. Do the math with going to do a job 41 miles away. says he thought he would be back in time.

Dog looks to be in good shape. Actually heavier than would be expected.

Dogs teeth are worn more than would be expected for a dog this age, but it could just be this dog.

Dog has collar with a different name and two different phone #'s

Ask his wife the dogs name - she says she does not know anything about his dogs. She is not friendly at all.

I call the guy and ask him when he will be home, tell him I will wait around. He asks if there is a problem, blah, blah, blah, there is the dog if I want it. No he will not take a post dated check, does not like messing with checks.

I ask wife if she minds if I park outside the gate, she doesn't care.

I go get the #s off the dogs collars and start doing some calling.

Guy calls says I am making her nervous by being parked across the street. I am actually driving off during this phone call.

6:20 Guy calls and wants to know why I am checking up on him. Says he does not like being checked on like he is a kid. Conversation went south at this point. (the #'s on the collar are someone he huints with and it has gotten back around to him)

The biggest point he kept telling me was that I knew were he lived so I should have no problem giving his wife the cash. Said he had someone else that was coming to get the dog and that they said as long as they knew were he lived they did not care if they met him or not. I told him I did not feel that way.

I have left off locations,  names and details that would point fingers at specific individuals.
13  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Dog may lose its pad or worse on: March 18, 2010, 05:59:54 pm
I have seen a brown recluse bite, and this looked just like it. The necrosis was not in one location like would be expected with a spider bite though. The cause is a mute point at this time, but I would like to know what it was, will never know for sure. He has kept the majority of his pad, so the outlook is better than was first expected. He has lost alot of the tissue in his foot, but in time should heal.
14  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Dog may lose its pad or worse on: March 17, 2010, 01:43:05 pm
Yes, snake bite is what is probably most likely. The other possible causes that were brought up was a water borne bacteria. We were hunting in swampy areas the whole day. The vet said that it was not infection from a thorn, and that it could have been caused from severe bruising which in turn limited blood supply to the foot. He said the most common cause of an injury like this would be if a dog was to be caught in a leg hold trap or something of that nature. The loss of blood supply would cause the foot tissue to begin to die.
15  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Dog may lose its pad or worse on: March 16, 2010, 08:28:24 pm
Running dogs they often get pad injurys, it often appears that they have stepped on locust thorns. There paw will swell and a pustule may or may not develop. If it appears, it will rupture and the swelling will go down. In about a 3-4 day period, they may still favor the paw, but they are running on it. Between me and my hunting partners, this is something we see monthly. I had a dog which appeared to be have this happen. His paw swelled, a pustule developed, and on the second day I pricked it and allowed it to drain. Normally the next day the swelling in the paw is mostly gone and the dog is moving around alot better.

On day three, the paw was noticeably worse. The spot of the small postule was now a small hole in the top of his foot. The bottom of his paw had two spots that that were oozing blood, and the swelling was still present.

I brought the dog to the vet and today is day four. I went check on him and about 1/3 of his pad closest to his leg is gone. You can see the bones in his foot by looking in either the hole in the top or the bottom of his foot. Has anybody ever had a dog lose all or the majority of its pad.

5-6 yo Female AB. Catches on ear. Very solid dog. Will follow through the woods without being on a lead. Rides in the dogbox with the cur dogs and has no people aggression.  Has been in the same pen with dogs and puppies and never been aggressive. Reason for getting rid of her is she got into a fight with my neighbors lab over a deer leg and just keeping the peace.  Shreveport, La. - $300 or possible trade.
