My first three pig dogs were former cow dogs they were to rough on calves we broke them off the cows just like Mr whitten said keep putting them on pigs and they will figure out real quick that they can get rough as they want on them without getting popped with the e collar

I had 5 cur dogs and one border collie that we penned with for many years I preferred the curs for penning and used the border collie in the pens to push them in the ally when loading and sorting

I have been using cats and bmc for over twenty years but we pen horseback and they are bay dogs that is what we want collies are smart and easier to train but they are better suited for driving I don't need a dog for driving that's why we have the horses and one more thing if you have a fighter that likes to break a bay and run I would much rather have my old ruff bay dogs over a collie that is just my opinion

I use to take my pups when I ran my traps until they where old enough to work in a pen to see how they would act towards one it gave them riding time on the truck and I could see if they where going to be rough or loose or even interested that was just me though every one has their own ways

This is just my opinion but if you are trying to save on feed get rid of the horse but don't give it bread a horse needs more than that to stay up and if the horse is use to eating grain and good hay or green grass it might not even touch the bread
