I've never heard of a dog preferring or only catching just boars or just sows. i run rig dogs and a lot of times we will wind boars or barrs before we would a sow.... of course because they are stronger smelling.... but we still catch a lot of sows as well. Maybe your boar to sow ratio is down? that's why your catching more sows or boars? interesting topic. Never really heard of this

Everyone has their own opinion on it but i start taking mine at around 3 months. Simply to just ride in the box with the older dogs and get used to loading up and being quiet in the box. If we catch something smaller ill let the pup out just to play with the hog, not really expecting much from the puppy at this point but at least he's in the woods and seeing what the older dogs are doing. After a few times of going to the woods i might put a collar on him and let him run around with older dogs just to let him run with them. i don't do this long though because of the pup not being able to keep up with the older dogs. The more exposure to the woods the better in my opinion.

Guess everyone has there own opinion on the subject. Trying to only hunt the dogs at night right now to keep them from over heating. I'm here in Central Florida and its way to hot down here. We hunt a place in Avon Park called the Bombing Range and every one seems to run dogs with nothing down there, even in the winter. Everyone has a style of hunting they grew up doing so nothing wrong with that.

Just trying to see what everyone else does. I don't think there is a problem with running cut gear this time of year but with my pack all 3 of them rather just catch then bark. Don't own a "catch dog", never needed one. Only problem i have is that all the dogs are out hunting and running around consistently and having cut gear on them makes them last about half as long. Considering taking my chances and running them naked. Just was wondering what everyone else is doing. I'm about ready to start feeling a cool breeze.

Reuben- That's crazy, i have never even heard of that. i couldn't imagine having a dog that would find nothing but big boar hogs and never a sow, must have took a ton of training. My 3 dogs are older and have all been trained in the woods. I'm sure y'all have heard of the law in Florida where you cant train in a pen anymore, therefore most dogs around here learn everything in the woods, that being said it makes it alittle harder to fix the little things a dogs doing wrong (like finding only boars). I'm not complaining that i catch mostly boars, i was just wondering if it happens to others that hunted only wind dogs. I try to Barr everything i catch so catching boars is fine to me.

We catch sows too, but it's unbelievable how many more big boars we catch (Not Complainging about that) but it's unreal. Lol Thanks for your comments. Went yesterday Morning and my cook dog winded and caught two. Both boars (Imagine That)
