HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Got one Saturday & two yesterday

Rode around the lease Saturday mornin for about an hour lookin for some fresh sign. Finally came across a pine that was about 8" in diameter that was cut up all the way around it. Drove a lil farther & found another tree that had been rubbed on & the mud was still wet so we let the dogs out. Bout 2 minutes later we heard em bayin. Me & one of my cousins got the catch dogs & another cousin grabbed the gun. They were a lil over 300 yds from us & it was so thick you just about had to crawl most of the way. My cousin with the gun was the first one there & he hollered & told us not to turn the catch dogs loose. They had the hog backed up in the roots of a blown over tree so it wasn't goin anywhere. He said he climbed up on top of the roots to see what it was & the hog tried to come up over the top with him & that's when he shot it. There was no way to get the side by sides in there to him so we had to drag him all the way out. His whetters were broke off but his cutters were 2 7/8. Yesterday we got a sow that was prolly 150# right before the rain & another sow that was around 100# while it was rainin. Didn't get any pics of those tho.

I've been trying to decide to keep trying her or she just don't have it in her. What's talks thoughts?
From my experience, & like others have posted here, sometimes the dog needs a good whoopin from a hog. That's what it's took for the pit I had that died & the one I have catchin now. The one I have that wont catch hasn't had one whoop up on him & I'm hopin that that's what's gonna work.

I started around the middle of last year. My dad & cousins have been doin it for years. One day I decided I wanted to go with em now I'm hooked for life. They all work shift work & go during the week so I don't get to go as much as I'd like but when I do have the opportunity I'm there.

Totally agree. The sow we had at the time is pretty much tame. It's half potbelly & half rooter. We took one out live last Monday & have her in the bay pen now but I haven't had a chance to get back over there. I haven't given up yet. Definitely gonna try again with the new sow we got, see if she'll rough him up & get him goin.

I guess they're out there but I never had a bulldog that wouldn't catch.
I had a 2 year old pit that was my catch dog. I came home from work one day & he was dead on his chain. A couple friends & myself started lookin for another pit to replace him. My friend found a lil black & white male & picked him up for me. I took him to the bay pen & he wanted nothin at all to do with the hog. I tried to push him in the direction of the hog & he started squealin & whinin & doin his best to get as far away as fast as he could. So yeah, they're definitely out there.
