1  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Bulldog trainers on: February 24, 2020, 10:31:32 pm
As bad as we all hate to send a bulldog without a vest sometimes it will aid in teaching one to make better shots and to get against the hog better rather than being wild with their actions... I’ve had one in particular that for several years you could bet a paycheck no matter the situation when you cut a snap you was going to tie that hog and randomly 1 summer she started picking bad shots and missing some hogs she had no business missing. I take the vest from them start back from basics with catching some hogs in the open that are pretty rank with no teeth then to the woods and earn the vest back... May try a different style of vest as well. I use wild boar USA guardians and I’ve got a gyp that is super nice and when I stepped her up from a smaller bay type vest to the guardian she had trouble getting caught it seemed like so I went back to an old style catch best without the throat flap and right back to being accurate and solid.

Well TMatt there's 3 hunting clubs that join. Ten Mile, Gum Slough and South Jasper all of which are full of dog hunters and have been for the last 25+ years. Then the next club over is Little Prarie I believe which kinda just got started. So they get a hog jumped he rolls into little prarie and the dogs come trailing across the pipeline and he blast her. His reasoning was that they don't allow dog hunting in their club also the shooter tried to take another dog after he shot 1 so this hunting club hero is a dog thief and a dog killer the 2 most lowdown disgracful names that a man could be labeled .... As far as the man that got the dog shot he needs no courage from any iron he may carry and would give most men in their prime a good run for their money he let his temper get the better of him in a situation any man with pride would've been tested in.. It's sheer principle to me... Kill my dog you will have to answer for it regardless of the situation. I've personally never been put in that predicament but given I was hopefully my raising and the man upstairs would let me make the right decision rather than what I would want to do.

I got off @ 5 yesterday, made it home by 6/6:15. Went straight to my dads and started sewing dogs up.By 11ish I was finishing up with the 2nd dog.. He's hunted 3 times since the first of the year and this was his 2nd hog. And he's 3 dogs out of commission for 3+ weeks. That's the main reason I don't have them anymore.

It's explained in the pics above it..all 3 pics are same dogs mainly besides Gator.

I'm sorry I thought those were just the people who bred them, I meant the actual breeds that the dogs are composed of

Once upon a time I had rough dogs, just personal preference but I weeded through them and went to loose dogs due to the amount of time I played vet and let them recover vs time I spent hunting.

Gator(Tommy Laman bred) Musgrove( Out of Rusty Musgrove's Levi dog)

Marvin (Hart/Percy Alders bred of my dads yard) Musgrove

Marvin, Levi, and Musgrove.

I've had a few more that didn't make it long enough to even take pics, but these were all medium range, dead silent, rough as a cobb..Was pretty common to tie a boar hog 200/250 with 2/3 of these and them be caught long before you got there.

Matt Bittick has black gyp that is 1 eyed. I'm not sure that it changed her much. I had a bulldog that was 1 eyed for a while and he kept on clicking along until I got him healed up.

They were next to Ten Mile/Gum Slough Clubs, from what I gathered after speaking to Kyle last night. the dog was shot off Gist Rd side... Self served justice is the only thing that will ever be remotely close to satisfaction... I'd dang sure hate to be put in that position.

Hell of trip men!! I'd have to hunt 12 times to tie 26 in places I got in the piney woods.

Some recover from it some don't, only time can give you the answer to this question. Give him a few months and start him over at step 1.
12  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Breeding direction on: February 17, 2017, 09:46:44 am
lots of dogs produce better than they are and lots of dogs that are real good not  produce real well ......  some pups will make dogs  hunted by just about anyone .... others  have  to be  in the right hands and be trained .....high turn outs means strong  born instincts ....... so advantage is finding a dog with high turnouts in  his offspring per litter ..........
I wish there was a like button on this page!! Couldn't agree more Parker

14  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: How many dogs do y'all run at one time? on: February 15, 2017, 04:36:50 pm
Anywhere from 1 to 12 depends on how much country there is.. My dogs ain't rough so it's not a bad deal to have 5-7 dogs bayed.. Dogs are pretty independent as well so if we cast 8/12 sometimes only 3/4 will be bayed the others will leave running in their on hog.
15  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Need some ideas for a charging station for collars!!! on: January 24, 2017, 12:26:29 pm
I'll have to check it out, the strip I have had 5 and you can only plug a charger in every other 1... Thanks gentlemen.
16  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Need some ideas for a charging station for collars!!! on: January 24, 2017, 10:46:06 am
I need some ideas for some docking stations for collars... 8 T5s and 2 DC 50s gets to be a pain and messy the day before every hunt. Has to be a better way than taking up every available plug in the house and having collars strolled out.

19  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: A couple new pups off a 2016 summer litter on: December 20, 2016, 07:58:48 am
Thanks Chris, and I don't believe every dog that moves a hog with their head down is slow their is some that have the ability to really stretch out with their head down, but that's not the exact case with mine... For instance Clyde and Fletcher(RIP) have all day bottom but only avg 5/6 mph after they are running and when you check a track where they crossed the road they are track for track with the hog, where as some of the others that will pick their head up will cross 10-15' either side of the track and avg 7/9 mph in thick woods may not have the bottom the other 2 have but they can make the hog sprint rather than trot so it seems like I tie more hogs behind the others rather than I did with Clyde and Fletcher.... I may be wrong about the whole deal but this is the best theory and solution I could draw up from watching this particular group of dogs work.
20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: A couple new pups off a 2016 summer litter on: December 20, 2016, 06:04:15 am
Just by factoring in the breeding and some previous litters I bred similar, being gyps they should start at a decent age, hunt exceptionally deep, good bottom, but this breeding being an outcross id like to see them bay a little better than my normal dogs, and possibly take a touch of the nose away from them and pick their head up to move a hog... It lights a fire under me to see a dog run with its head down and it seems like that's what I've ended up with 50/50 on the last few batches I've raised.

I hear ya on that, gotta love a dog that pushes a track with its head up. Sure are fine looking pups, I like their names too.
Man it's just personal preference for the country you hunt the way I see it, thank ya sir.
