From the time I spend in those hills, there’s a balance of predators, everything else is on the menu. It’s funny the bleeding hearts don’t think the deer and bunnies are cute enough to protect. 

Had to put in some foot miles to retrieve this camera today seeing how the gate into the section of National Forest was closed again. I was forced to take the scenic route, anyhow it's a good look at what's eating all the deer out here.

T-dog, I’m out west. Coyotes aren’t what I focus on normally, just doing something different from running the dogs in the local mountains. I keep getting older and those mountains aren’t getting any flatter. I remember hunting in Texas a couple years ago, where the buggies rolled in and the coyotes made a hasty retreat like you said. They know what time it is.

Got a new predator caller (LuckyDuck Riot) and wanted to give it a try, we put some miles down today. My young male is about 14 moths old and this is the first game he has seen so far. He hunts out and runs track pretty well, but today is the first time he got to come face to face with something. I need some range time because my shooting was atrocious today.

I would not have guessed walker/catahoula, I suspected there was some sort of whippet in there. They look built for speed, again nice looking pack.

What breeds are in those black and white dogs? They look like they can carry the mail without delay.

I put a sheet of aluminum on mine, it cost me though. The sides are now closed in with 1/4" plywood, if I was to do it again, I'd use less steel in the design. I'd eliminate most of the vertical supports or the expanded steel side panels to drop some weight.

Braveto is pretty expensive if u have a bunch of dogs. I use termidor way cheaper , 3cc down the back and it kills the heck out of the ticks !

I like the looks of those brindle dogs, I’m guessing your messenger is about to blow up with folks wanting to go hunt with you. 

Guess I should've mentioned, I don't have the tick problem around the house, it's when we go to the field. Since I only have two dogs, the price isn't going to break the bank. I can see for the hunters that have several dogs, the cost would have me looking for another solution.

Thanks for the responses, I usually just pull ticks when we find them. This year I wanted to give this a try, I'm guessing it works, got back from the mountains the other day, no ticks on the dogs but I collected one. Joker was dug in too, don't ask where it was please.

The ticks in my area seem to be pretty bad this year, despite the cold temps that usually put them away for the winter. So I tried giving Bravecto to my two dogs (jagdterriers), it’s only been a couple days and they seem fine. My question is, have any of you used it, and what are your concerns with side effects. I’m not sure I want to use it on them regularly.

I went and pulled this camera today, finally got the bear that has been marking some sycamore trees. This is a narrow corridor I found, when I was in there last year, I noticed the trees all marked up, so I started setting trail cam's in there.

That boar has been eating good. Love the look on the kids faces, that’s the best part of the hunt.

Where did you get your Heide’s from? I know of two people that breed and hunt them and they seem to have different styles from what they tell me. One side is like you describe in your dog where they’re more likely to bay. The other camps dogs are absolute killers, straight catch. I have a pair of jagd’s but I’d like to get my hands on a heideterrier one day in the future.

My female comes in heat every six months like clockwork, I switched them to Victor hi-pro about three months ago. She didn’t have her regular heat cycle this time (as of yet), no spotting at all but my male keeps trying to mount her so I know something is going on with her. She’s almost six years old and never been bred.

Looking forward to her turning into a show off in the woods Cajun.
