my dog was like that and still is at times what i did was buy a cheap shock collar from amazon that works up to 330 yards its about 30 dollars. so what i did was caught him and put collar on in my fenced backyard let him go and when he didnt want to come to me i lit him up. i think i only hit him twice and that was it any time i feel like he's getting cayote like ill put the collar on him. but i also use the tone pretty much if he hears that he will run stright to me. hope this helps.
Dallas, Is that dog a Jagdterrier? I did the same thing, they'll usually come to my voice call now.

I'm not a huge shepherd fan either, but those belgian malinois are smaller and just furry buzz saws when it comes to unwanted creepers.

Dallas, I have to ask, are the little Jagd's capable of repelling intruders? I had a pair of pits for 15 years, they ran loose in the back yard. I had bikers for nieghbors, painters at my house that have done hard time, I can assure you they wanted nothing to do with them.
Great with the nieghborhood kids, but they would not tolerate people around the house when I was gone. I rescued both of them

I am certainly no expert, but I have noticed a trend towards these short legged, wide bodied looking things people are passing off as "Bullys".
Looks like a horrible trend of out of standard breeding, or breeding for what people think is the next cool looking thing, destroying a functional dog.
