I’ve got 2 dogs with scab sores on them. Started on their ears, about the size a pencil eraser. Now they’ve started getting on their legs. Any ideas?
5  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Long term effects of conserve sc on: June 07, 2023, 11:44:13 am
I’ve always give mine in the mouth not down the back.
6  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Long term effects of conserve sc on: June 06, 2023, 08:09:36 pm
Same, no negative affects. I max out at 5ml even if the dog is over 50 lbs.  works great
7  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Dog Box on: December 15, 2022, 07:04:42 pm
Got a fella building me a steel dog box for by little yota truck. Can’t afford aluminum!  It’s already going to be heavy as crap and he’s wanting to put a sheet of 1/16 steel on top but I told him to hold up and I’ll handle the top. Any idea besides plywood?
8  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Plott Pups on: October 26, 2022, 06:40:44 pm
Got a couple young plott dogs to try this year.  I used to run all open mouth dogs and have gotten away from it the last few years.  Got high hopes for these 3. The two mates are 6 months. The brindle male is 9 months.  I’d never seen the black/tan color.  Anyone got any info on that color pattern?

Thanks guys it sucks but it’s all just part of having animals. Yea I’ve had 1 other rattler bite  that I saw happen and a handful of moccasin bites but I was able to handle those myself with no problem.
No idea how many times she has been bitten but she had more places bleeding on her face than I could count. I didnt look her over too carefully because by the time I found her I could tell it was over with.
I did give her dex, antibiotics, and 2 bags of fluids via IV…it didn’t hurt but didn’t make much difference.  Gave her Benadryl but each time she’d throw it up.  Tell y’all boys again, I’ve seen animals die in some tough ways but this was by far the worst. If it happens again I think I’ll help em along

So much for keeping her on the bench so a hog didn’t kill her. A grown rattle snake got to her yesterday evening. She killed the snake but paid the price. By the time I found her I reckon it had been 2-3 hours since the bites…made it till about 2:00 AM and that was it.  Had a few dogs get bitten over the years but have never seen one suffer and die from it. Worst way to go I’ve ever seen

Yes I guess it depends on how bad you need the pups if you’re willing to risk getting her busted up. I guess I was asking how long you could hunt them from a health perspective which y’all answered also. Thanks guys

How long do y’all hunt a dog that’s been bred before you let her lay up?
13  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Garmin Repair on: June 09, 2022, 12:21:54 pm
I’ve got 4 collars that need new GPS receivers. I want to replace Garmin’s factory rubber straps with the heavy duty nylon ones.  I would attempt it, but don’t truck myself to Sadler it back together.  Y’all know anyone who does this?

Small world!  We were hunting within 5 miles of each other this weekend. I hunt the block that boarders where you were which is owned by the same family, it’s all beautiful property…the kind of place you feel fortunate to be a part of. And yea I’m glad you got to see the the briar bed oceans. . It’s one of those things that you can’t tell someone about, you just gotta experience it.  Now you just need to do it in July haha. That’s good stuff though.

Yea man that’s a good one. I hope your dog heals up quick
17  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: 1-28-22 on: February 04, 2022, 12:16:35 pm
Yea that bull dog is learning. He’s a mix of all sorts of stuff. APBT, Johnson am bull, and presa.  The sow was his first time seeing one in the woods, After she bit him on the neck he developed a quick hatred and had 4 more opportunities to release his aggression later that morning.  All trips aren’t like that but it’s nice when it comes together.

Had a pretty good day last Friday. Got some young dogs turned on and broke in a new bull dog. Caught 5 total, 4 good boars and a fat sow.

20  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Pup wormer on: November 01, 2020, 11:12:24 am
I have some med resistant worms right now too. Had been using safeguard goat wormer, with not much luck. I noticed someone said they give ivomec under the skin. Anyone else do this for heart worm prevention?  I have always done orally but they salivate so bad afterwards, I’ve wondered how much actually gets in their system.
