4  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: If you could have only one dog... on: June 13, 2016, 07:54:07 am
If I was going to run one dog I would want one that would bay very loose putting no pressure on the hog . Once the hog stops the dog would back way off and just bark .

Has anyone had any vest cut all the way through ? What kind of vest have you seen hogs cut through it?

Most of the bird\bulls I have seen tended to be catchy.
9  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Long Haired Curs on: February 07, 2016, 04:48:41 pm
The Campbell dogs do not have any of the common known cur dogs in them but guess they had to call them something . I had a couple Campbell dogs several years ago that was shaggy haired.

We have always had better luck with full blooded English pointers rather than Shorthair's . most are very gritty and will sometimes point the hog before they start baying .

I will look around for pictures of some of the old dogs . Most bird bull crosses look almost like a full bird dog

Black boy was killed before he bred I think . He was just starting to make a nice dog when he got killed the female black gal was also killed the same night .

No hound or cur in the outlaw dogs . They all looked alot like bird dogs . Hard hunting and rough as a cobb. The Campbell dogs are bird and bull then crossed to one of the founding outlaw dogs.

The outlaw and the Campbell go back to a dog named peanut . Peanut was a well built red and white dog that had tons of heart and grit . He played a big role in the outlaw dogs as well as the Campbell dogs .

The Campbell and outlaw cur's are both very tight bred lines . The outlaw dogs did not have hound in them . The outlaw dog (peanut) was a strong influence in the Campbell dogs and he is not far back in the lineage .

The few that I have seen crossed with gsp didn't have the same fire as the English pointers .

The outlaw and Campbell dogs both went back to a dog that was owned by Randy Dominy . they both had one common ancestor but the lines were bred differently after that . Some of both lines hunted similar however the outlaw dogs are more intense bay dogs as a whole .

You may have heard of Campbell and outlaw cur's both are said to be heavy in bird and bull blood .

Pit and bird crosses generally handle the heat pretty good .
