41  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Dan's Chaps on: August 03, 2018, 09:55:57 am
Had a close encounter with a cottonmouth. I hunt the Florida swamps in jeans and tennis shoes, but I'm curious if anyone has tried Dan's Chaps? The snake proof ones look very heavy but do the other ones provide any protection in the event of a snake bit? Just curious what others are doing.

Reuben,

This is great a perspective, good and usable advice. I spent a lot of time in the woods and realize some of my faults in my hunting operations just by reading your post. Very good, simplified, and effective advice you give. I think sometimes I get in a hurry and don't realize what the dogs are telling me or how they're learning or woking a track. I will try to slow it down and given them more opportunity for growth and trust building.

Sure did, bet your ass I wasn't holding on to them after I gave it to them.

Having good outcomes even on the cats!

I have 5 bark collars, just hate shocking them. I rotate them with the sprinkler system, they have been quite since switching to the hose, they really hate it.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep y'all posted on how they turn out.

Thanks for the clarification, I could see where that could be a issue.

Merle coat commwnt I disagree with, my pack have proven that  wrong, but can’t say much about the double glass eyes. Maybe you can be more specific?

I know it probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but how many of you have had personal experience with cur dogs with double glass eyes turn out? What are your thoughts on them overall? The line of crackers curs I have, the family has been trying to breed out the cat traits (color) for years, but I have grown to like them and have dogs work just fine. But I've never had a dog with two glass eyes. It's funny the mother is mostly white except for some tan on her face (cracker cur), the father is a outcross redbone/BMC which looks like a BMC but solid red in color like your typical redbone. Got 9 puppies to pick from..... decisions, decisions. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info, $350 is steep for a sprinkler, lol. Any other suggestions would be great. I thought about the BB gun but my luck I would put a eye out.
51  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Bark prevention. on: May 22, 2018, 07:56:51 am
I live on 5 acres and my neighbors are close to me. I put my pens on the side of my house closes to my bedroom room so I can hear them bark at night to shut them up. I was using bark collars from sport dog off and on but since set a sprinkler up facing the pens with my dogs houses facing the opposite direction. This seems to work well, just sucks I have to turn the hose on in the middle of the night and go back to bed. Are there any systems with a sensor to turn the hose on and off with bark detection? Seems kinda far fetched but would be nice. Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

Goose,

I'm closer to Mallory Swamp WMA, those areas you named are pretty far from me. I'm near Branford/Mayo area. Shoot me a message if you want to come.

The information is much appreciated. Thanks for sharing, this site has helped me out a lot. Please feel free to delete this thread, and I'm on board with keeping this between us to prevent not having access to it in the future! Thanks again.

I found the conserve spinosad 11.6% 32 ounce bottle for $150 (domyown.com), the same bottle in the picture. Dosage is 1cc per 10 pounds. Just want to verify prior my order, but this is awesome and you guys have no idea how much this will help/save me! Thank you!

Thanks, any suggestions on where to buy conserve?
57  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Online comfortis on: April 17, 2018, 03:57:38 pm
Just curious if anyone is having actual luck with buying comfortis overseas without prescription. My pens are on dirt and my vet recently retired and would let me buy comfortis without a visit every year. Figure it's worth a shot. I have tried multiple other methods but nothing works as good as the comfortis, I usually buy the largest pill and split them in half and they work for 6-8 weeks.

I agree 100%, groups hunts get overwhelming and if they have their own dogs mine seem to not want to work for me as well. Glad I'm not the only person out there.
59  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: GARMIN TRACKING SYSTEMS on: February 02, 2018, 10:47:32 am
Been using astro for years and switched to alpha for the past year. Had a issue with the screen locking from a scratch but customer service is awesome. They next day shipped a new handheld for 250 and gave me a 100 refund once they received the old unit. Same goes with collars and turn around time. This stuff gets beat to death and has to be replaced so often.
60  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Solo Hunting on: February 02, 2018, 10:39:56 am
Recently started hunting by myself, mainly when my buddies can't go. How many hunt solo? I've found I really enjoy it. Sucks running to a bay in the swamp (Florida) when you have to swim or going waist deep alone but it's makes the adventure more exciting.
