I know it's an old post, but I use burnt motor oil on hot spots and mange.. clears it up in a couple weeks.

fleas or not, I dip em in burnt motor oil or just apply to affected area 3 times and it clears em up

Get out now while your ahead and you still have sanity, hair on your head, lots of free time, extra money in your pocket, friends outside of dog hunting,  the list goes on.....

Just kidding, what everybody says is a good way to start.

take about 5 grand, throw it in a metal trash can.. and burn it.. you'll be about where I am after doing it for 6 or 7 years..

lol.. I did the same thing with my collar, I tried bakingsoda and vinegar, and it got about 90 pct of the smell off.. but that collar is now the bulldog collar.. as for the dog.. it wears off eventually.. lol..

jmaroon stop listening to everything you hear on the internet.     Sounds like you have a hellva little female and have heard to much BS about all the super internet dogs the "stop" every hog that tries to run.    News Flash, thats BS!   No dog is perfect and they ALL get out ran by the runners from time to time so just enjoy this little dog for what she is.    Good luck
I'm not worried bout what the internet says, I just have a dog that could be a jam up dog somewhere that a pig will just stop turn and bay.. I'd just like to see a lil more nut biting from her.. like I said before.. we have a lot of hogs that aint gonna turn with out teeth on their butts.. she's good.. I just wanted to see if I could.. improve on her.. do I want her to CATCH every hog? hell no.. I'd just like to stop a few more.
I really appreciate the knowledge that I've heard so far.. I'm just gonna run her like she is and see what turns out.

I thought about putting her in a bay pen with a real rough hog.. she's never had a scratch on her, she's been too quick so far, but if she got a poke or two, maybe she'd get rougher? 50 50 shot whether she gets rough or ruined.. anybody try this? how'd it work out..

13  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / how to teach grit? on: February 11, 2016, 01:50:25 pm
I have a gyp that has a heck of a nose, loads of drive and hates a pig. bays great, but has no grit.. she won't put teeth on a runner. are there any tricks to get a dog to get a little more grit? this dog would be the whole package if she could stop a runner..
