1  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Potential Strike Dog pup on: December 07, 2022, 07:30:11 pm
From a friend in the Fort Worth area

“ Looking for a home for Sturgill - 10 month old Coonhound/ Lab mix. Very smart and trainable but high energy and needs a more land to roam, would be ideal for someone interested in training a hunting dog as he’s very active and needs to be engaged. Very friendly and sweet and rarely barks unless strangers mess around the gate/fence. I would love to keep him, he’s a really good boy, I just don’t have as much space as he needs to have.” Good looking athletic pup could have catahoula blood in there as well.

Very impresive ....Any dog that can kill a coyote or javelina singlehandidly is a freak...What are his bloodlines,  Sandhill, Mooreland ?
I used to have a combination of the two and sometimes pure of each…also Quachita out of Mena, Arkansas…

Cajun…they have a wide loin and solid rears to match…the width between the front legs is not wide…but the chest is deep and the withers arch high into the neck and with a very muscular neck…

When they spread their rear legs and pin their adversaries down they can exert some power…

I believe a lot of the power is in the wide loins, sturdy rears and muscular necks…the necks are not wide but they are deep…

The mouth is fairly long and the ivory is easy to see…lol

Perfectly put!

Yes he’s not fast enough to catch a coyote but when my sighthounds get one caught he’s usually the finisher. Been on two accidental javelinas killed 1 smaller one fairly easily the other was a big boar in the middle of winter, pinned it by the throat and I finished it with a knife. Talked to the game warden about it both times and they just basically shrugged and said “oh well it happens” lol he has Mooreland a few gens back on one side, he’s mostly windstar in his pedigree. Texas Airedales mostly all of them

I live in northwest Texas towards the bottom of the panhandle and edge of the plains so with pigs it’s a lot of dumping from the truck or casting him down into the creek bottoms. All the pigs we catch are found by him. Really good stamina, during winter he can go on forever, during summer he’ll get hot after a bit.

I’ve seen interest on this forum in working/hunting Airedales in the past. The have their pros & cons but are my breed of choice to do anything with. I put together a YouTube video of my main dog Vango, and I think it may be some of the best footage of how versatile Airedales could be. I figured some of y’all might want to see it so here’s a link to it. Let me know what y’all think!

Or if that link don’t work it’s “Vango- A legendary hunting Airedale”  on YouTube.

My friend has a huge leggy airdale that’s a rcd. He doesn’t want to sell it so I think I got him talked intoletting me build my own lol. Does anyone have any experience crossing one over with a small pit or dogo. Both are lead in cd. Thought I wanted small catchdogs until mine got walked off with and couldn’t control the hog. I’ve always found them hairy dogs from Australia interesting. What one would add more into it than take away

I currently use 3 Airedales and a Staghound for hogs. It took me a very long time to find good hard Airedales. My male is my main dog. He finds hogs and catches solid. I use them for coon/vermin hunting as well. Hell one time we were out quail hunting and he caught and killed a javelina on his own! I wouldn’t call Airedales the best hunting dogs because how could they be? No one is really breeding specifically for hunting at this point. Even then, they are very good versatile dogs and a good one makes a damn good hog dog. Mine (Vango) is about 27ish inches at the shoulder and is usually around 80-85lbs in shape, tall & leggy. Full Airedale too I have his full AKC papers, he’s got some Mooreland blood far back. My females are around 60-65lbs and catch like bulldogs, one in particular is near suicidal on boars. Lots of stamina. Shaving them down takes a couple hours but you only have to do it a few times a year.  Is your friend still using that Airedale? I just had my first two litters this year, and in august, I’m always on the lookout for other good hunting dales to cross into the ones I have
