I’ve noticed that before two Cajun especially the biggers ones. Sometimes I think they’re dumb for letting my hound trail them to a bed and bay but when they start running and never stop I quickly change my opinion haha.

Does anyone in north east Texas recall a Richard hammonds? I believe he’s passed away, I used to have a cur dog that came from his yard. If my memory serves me right that is his name.

I know that’s right.  it’s been my dream since I went with my cousin a few times when I was in elementary. I didn’t get to get any hunting dogs until I was about 21 when I moved out of town. I have literally scoured this site for years and I’m just thankful to finally be able to have hounds of my own and get to work with them. I’ve learned a lot of here.

I’ve thought about starting young dogs in a running pen. What kind of game is in the pen your using?

Got one gyp I bred and raised that’s picking it up pretty nicely. She reminds me of her sire my old dog ranger. She’s the light brindle gyp. And the cur Julys are as trashy as they were a year ago just doing it better. Excited about starting the six running walkers I picked up. They’re about six months old now and live chewing on a hog hide. Those that don’t bay I’m going to start on deer and hopefully get my introduction to Arkansas’s public land deer dog season this year. Also pretty excited about my accidental litter between the light brindle bitch and my squirrel dog. I’m not for sure how they’ll be but both sides is hunting dog.  Made a trip to white river refuge and knocked out a bunch of squirrels until we found out we needed to be on the north end. That probably explains why there was so many squirrels lmao.

Born October 22. Dad and grandpa to the dam was my old dog ranger he’d put his nose down. Big houndy cur that was pretty good and I caught a lot of hogs with. Dam is 3/4 ranger 1/4 pit, pretty good herself and Carrie’s a lot of his traits and finds hogs. Her great grandma is my cd willow. Sire to the pups is omcba reg mtn cur. I’ve contacted everyone on his puppy papers and they were all squirrel dogs. Has thundersport in him not far off. He casts and is serious about his squirrels and has a lot of hunt. He will put his nose down. But is pretty good at winding as well.

13  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Didn’t make it out the block on: November 25, 2023, 11:42:04 pm
Met a long time hog hunting friend at my usual spot a few nights ago. We don’t get to hunt together but a few times a year. I had brought my rough dogs buck and my rcd blondie. In hopes of finally stopping one of the better tracks I’ve been running. I couldn’t do it without slick he was there too. I went ahead and dropped buck and slick while he was collaring up. They did they’re business and kicked out. Slick started a track pretty quick buck by his side. They were in a kind of small block that butts up to a lot of land. I was getting pretty iffy because they kind of stopped and so did the trailing, so I went ahead and let blondie go with his dogs right behind. Quick easy walk through the woods. Buck got poked up pretty good I guess being an anchor. Most of the boars on this land do not get a chance to get that big and anything over a hundred is kind of a big deal to us lmao.
Then last night I got the chance to take my younger brother hunting. It’s been a few years since he wanted to tag along, I think I about broke him last time. We roaded slick a short distance and he started working a cold track. Once it started to sounded alittle warm I let my two brothers redman and Bobby go to pack in. Like I thought they worked it to a hog trap on some private. My usual hunting buddy shows up as soon as I grabbed them up and we went up the road and recasted slick. Our other dogs are pretty trashy so we’ve been letting him start the tracks first. He started a track and right off the batt I knew it was pretty warm. My buddies dog Willy  I call our stop dog he’s as fast as a speeding bullet and just as trashy as my two brothers. We got this little sow stopped and she made some good dog food, hopefully I’ll get to chew on her some this week too. They started another track around where we killed that sow and the race was on. Except somehow that race ended with zig zag shapes on the garmin when Willy lost his hog and ran it straight to my “trash broke” dog slick. They ran it a half a mile or so I think and i honestly think ended at a hog. You could cover them with a pen tip on the garmin for quiet awhile while we hiked in. Like it usually goes I get 3-400 yards away and it brakes with them headed straight to this large island that has a fifty foot wide canal separating it from the main land. Slick and Bobby made it across and so did Willie with my two pushing it. Hate I had to get on them like I did but they finally made they’re way back and thankfully swam across. Got the dogs put up about 3am. I was just glad to have them back m

Nice one man. It’s really hard for me to decide on breeding a cd liter or raising another from a pup, but it’s so rewarding and they’re moldable.

Kicked out slick to road him but he had other plans and started working a track about 500 yards away. I had the brothers and a dog I’m training too, but I kept them in the box until he chirped a few more times and let them go. Redman and Bobby started working it with him and I drove around the block. 5 deer were standing there where they should be coming out at but thankfully here comes the sow crossing the road with my three about 80 yards behind it. Got to hear a good race. My buddy was running late thankfully that day and a few miles later we casted in his real rough cur dog, before it could get to private. At first we thought they lost it because they cut a big tear drop and cut back up the middle. I told my friend I think we’re about to have a caught hog and sure enough. The next cast we casted slick and my buddies dog. Slick started on a real cold track and six hundred yards away. While he was in ear shot I let my two go. They worked it with him some but must’ve jumped a deer because my two young ones and buddies dog flew out. Thankfully only a mile and lost it in a thicket while slick slowly and steadily worked his track out. One of mine packed into him before It crossed the road while we were in the woods and couldn’t find a track. We never could stop them and the hog bayed only once or twice. While we were trying to get in to them. We chased those two a good bit longer but finally cut them off. The way they looked at me was like it was just at their grasps lol.
