2  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Why Not the Ear? on: November 09, 2013, 12:03:41 am
my dogo Cinco catches mostly behind the ears on the hogs neck. However he is always standing on the side or next to the hog and not out in front so that is good.
I think it all comes down to hog size..........he has only been on two or 3 hogs above 250 and allow those were caught on the ear.....his first 3 hogs were all snout until he moved to the back of the head.

I was happy to see him grab the ear on the big hogs, but I think its all about size....his mouth is so big that I think he cant get a good grip or one that he likes on the small ears of smaller hogs, so he grabs behind the ears on the back of the head.

As long as he doesn't stand out in front of the hog he should be ok

4  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Country Value Dog Food... on: March 12, 2013, 08:05:35 pm
Damon feed store had sport mix for 28 a couple weeks ago but it's just too far to drive I'm still feeding sport mix at 33 a bag but just less of it per dog.   They get diarrhea on diamond.....they love it and they look good but their kennels end of stinking and looking like a mud pit ......pretty much sux either way
5  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Land owners with pipelines crosding on: March 12, 2013, 07:59:15 pm
Don't take their first offer they tripled the amount they paid my brother from their original offer.....no lawyer required......how ever if the previous land owner sold them that large an easement then u might be out of luck but at the same time they should not be able to tear up ur driveway

10  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Kinda weird.... on: January 06, 2013, 07:48:10 pm
Well we had an ok hunt this morning, we were on a HUGE boar but he ran the dogs past a sow with piglets and they chased her instead. The dogs split up 3 ways and we ended up only catching one small piglet.
When I got there my 1 year old dogo had the piglet in his mouth and you could only see his head and hind legs sticking out of his mouth.

This dogo has been on about 10 good size hogs so far and has been catching great. I have to use a break stick and its impossible to just pull him off a hog.

Well today I grabbed his collar and and just sort of slipped the piglet out of his mouth!

The piglet was not hurt and the dog had just been holding him!!!

Even after I took it away he didnt fight to get it back........normally I have to drag him away from a hog.

Any one have a bulldog do that before?

Maybe he felt sorry fo teh little guy?....

14  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Why do dogs howl at sirens?? on: October 28, 2012, 03:26:17 pm
funny, one of my dogs did this last night when a fire truck drove by...........The other dogs didnt care.
I do not think it hurts them. The frequency that hurts their ears are the ones we cant hear at all.
15  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: They say school is important on: October 22, 2012, 10:19:44 pm
I think that % wise those with a useful college degree make more money than those without a college degree or at least the opportunity is there.
There are always examples of those who dont have a degree but are doing great financially. Many have a great idea and get lucky, others work really hard and get noticed but most have the financial support of their family. They have some one to give/lend them money to get started. However, most people do not fall under those categories and end up at a dead end job or have to work crazy hours or schedule in order to make money.

My younger brother has no degree but makes way more money than I do about $1,000 per day! (welder)
But to do this he has to travel to places far from his family and live out of a travel trailer or crappy hotel room.
Work crazy hours and have an unstable work place

I went to college, got an engineering degree, met my wife in college and now combined our salaries are about $200K. We each have 401K, IRA, insurance and hardly work 40 hours a week. We are home every evening and get to see hour kids grow up. I have the oppourtunity to work anywhere in the world and make way more money but I do not because I am happy where I am. The degree just gives me the opportunity to do so if I ever choose to.

All my friends that started working after high school make about the same as I do but they have to bust their but and work weekends and nights to make up for their lack of education. They have a wealth of experience in their one field but they are stuck doing that one job for ever. Putting in those long hard hours might not be difficult now at age 30  but their pay has topped out and the days are only going to get tougher as they get older.

The majority of time, college is the way to go.

and yes I have horrible grammar and spelling
16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Cut vest w/ floatation on: September 02, 2012, 11:33:49 pm
Seen some at academy that are for duck dogs. Seemed sort of like a wet suit made out of neoprene. Might be able to wear under cut vest but then u have to deal with the heat
17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: bronco on: May 20, 2012, 07:56:00 pm
The 78 and 79 are the best looking and better off road of the big broncos.
You can find some good deals on Craigslist
18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Painting my truck, got a few questions on: May 20, 2012, 07:44:55 pm
the time and money your going to spend, I would just take it to Maaco and get the $225 dollar paint job they advertise.
It will probably be better off in the long run.

19  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: CrossFit: Functional Fitness on: May 10, 2012, 11:26:01 pm

I wil be a fellow crossfitter soon. I have a shutdown at work that will be over in mid July.  Thankfully there are two crossfit clubs and and MMA gym within 5 minutes from my house. I will visit both crossfit clubs and go with the one that seems the best to me.
I used to be an athlete and need that competion feeling to keep my motivation. Even though I am 260 pounds now, I can still run a 5K at any time and just did the MS-150 bicycle ride from Houston to Austin.

My crossfit goal is to get back down to 220 and change the seditary life style I have lived since college graduation.

20  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Bees on: April 27, 2012, 11:35:59 pm
They are swarming and looking for a new home.
There are plenty of videos on youtube showing how to "catch" a swarm.

A guy at work does it all the time.
He gets a 5 gallon bucket with a screwed top. He then puts a small cloth with some lemon grass oil on it.
They cant resist that and the  ball of bees will all pile into the bucket. He waits over night and the next day puts the top on the bucket and carries the hive and sets it up in a box or sell it to someone who is starting out in beekeeping.

supposedly they are not aggressive when swarming because they do not have a home to protect.

The u tube vids are pretty crazy, guys in shorts and short sleeves with zero protection. They also handle the bees pretty rough, and dont get stung!!!
