I've seen used chest freezers used as whelping dog houses. Stick a light bulb in it and the puppies stay warm. I'm getting ready to build some houses out of walkin freezer panels. 4" thick foam with aluminum sheeting on the outside.

The Campbell curs are mostly bird/bull with outlaws WAY back which are more hound/cur cross. The Campbell's are very tight bred dogs. Their gonna hunt but have other problems that are a different story. The 75lb dog is 1/4 Dane. Gives then leg and size without the slobbering heavy bodies that mastiffs have. PM ur cell number and I'll text u a couple pics.

There are big dogs that handle the heat like smaller dogs. A lot depends on the breed and bloodlines. I also hunt by myself sometimes. I have a 75lb or so dog that can handle just about any hog by himself. I use a catchdog or .40 cal as back up. He has bird/bull in his breeding. It doesn't take a lot to get a good nose. Usually the more bird dog, the more bay u get.
To the original poster, are u in Texas ?

The English Pointer/Pit is a tried and true cross in Georgia. Be sure to use a game bred pit and a good plantation pointer. The drive these crosses have is amazing. I have some bird dog in all but one of my dogs.

U can get a catchdog from the pound. You need figure out what type of dog you want. Short range, long range, rough, bay, etc. Breed a good English Pointer to a good gamey leggy pit and I guarantee that you will get hunting dogs. Raise the whole litter up and pick the ones you want, sell the rest. It's the best absolute way to get quality hunting dogs.

Black Streak, what ur dealing with are obviously idiots who know everything yet know nothing. Best thing to do is ignore them and prove them wrong. I'm not gonna mention the crosses I'm making but folks will say they can't handle the thickets here cause their too big. I love proving them wrong.

I'm trying to breed "finder/holders" too. I don't see a point in running a hog 5 miles when I can catch him right away. My buddy and I have caught done nice hogs without a bulldog.

Wild hogs ain't gonna put on weight like a domestic hog. Better off buying a domestic hog and fatten it up. Turn those wild one loose to hunt another day.

I've been wanting to come out for a couple years and hunt but wife, work and $ stopped me. Think I may finally have things worked out. I'd like to spend a weekend running dogs in south, central, or north Texas. I'm tired of huntin pines and swamps. Thinking of coming out this spring. Anyone in these areas care to let me tag along ?
