Will a 217 collar work on the same handheld as the 216

No they have to be the same frequency on the first numbers.

You have a garmin also and this is your backup or you this is your main system? The telemetry systems are pretty bullet proof.

I have the wildlife system. I have mostly wildlife and Marshall collars. They sit around gathering dust since the garmins came out. I still put the collars on the dogs sometimes but haven't used the box in years.

You should be able to get collars pretty cheap.

You pay attention a lot of dogs are like that. Mine for example you see a lot of my cur dogs have scars on one side and very few on the other. Some have very few and are rough as a cobb. You can see passed on to several generations and same hog sign on them same side. If you pay attention they will come to you to be petted on the same direction, load on the same side of the truck. I definitely think a dog has a dominant left to right side preference like a person. Just like bucking bulls/broncs have a side they spin too.

That said I don't video mine......I don't want video evidence of how sorry they are! Lol

Sorry to hear about the news Thomas. Edgar sounded like a good guy. We are missing more and more of his kind in Florida every day.

32  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: 2/19 and 2/20/23 hunt on: March 01, 2023, 02:31:16 pm
Mike,

Couple years ago, I lost one to a gator in Feb and it was 40 deg the night before and mid 70's that day and gator got him that evening. Did'nt eat him but stuffed him and i found him 3 days later. I though for sure I was good but was wrong.

You are right about the warm winter and temps coming up. I seen a big sow gator last weekend (8'-9') That already had hatchlings, I usually don't see them till may-june around here. It is warm and they are looking for food for sure.

I swam a canal on the backside of lake Okeechobee to a dog caught on a sow and had 3 gators to my left and 3 to my right swimming as fast as they could to beat me to that hog and dog. I beat them across  pulled the hog and dog up the bank and they sat and watched me from about 10' waiting for one to get back in.

I know for sure you to tie a sorry dog in the middle of a gator infested swamp and he will die of old age.....but a good dog sticks a toe in the water and the gators are hunting it. I swear they can taste the difference!

Nice hunts.

34  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Austin Area on: February 09, 2023, 04:02:17 pm
I have not seen ray in 20+ years! I would love to see him break out some hog dogs! lol I am going to try to see a buddy over in Cleveland If I can Ill make a trip over.

I tried to breed the last of the pogo's 6-7 times and she never took. That is the last of them over this way. Id like to see the greyhound mixes. I hunted with some guys in ga with greyhounds and stags and thermal. I was impressed with them.
35  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Austin Area on: February 05, 2023, 11:47:22 am
I am flying from Central Florida to Austin next month for a long weekend. Would love tag along with someone on a hunt if possible and see some new country. I wouldnt have any dogs or equipment just a rental car. Can swing within a couple hours drive.

All my buddies I know live on the other side of Houston and a little to far to go in my time frame. They are checking with some of there friends but I figured I would throw it out here.

Obviously would return the favor with a hog dog hunt if your in Florida......or offshore or inshore fishing...or Turkey hunting if your in to those things.

You can pm me if you want.
36  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Dog Box on: December 17, 2022, 07:52:24 am
Coosa board, Starboard, Taco board its all HDPE polymer sheeting.

Some of the best I used, was a buddy of mine redid the polymer sheets on his airboat and gave me the old. it worked great on top of dog boxes.

But I am cheap and a buddy gives me his used sheets of 3/4" concrete formboard/plywood and it works great.

The polymer is nice but the do retain heat....not as much as steel/aluminum.....but to me wood stays the coolest to the touch
37  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: OL'GRIP MY CATCHDOG on: November 02, 2022, 12:21:46 pm
very nice looking dog. I really like the Dogo and the crosses. A good one is hard to beat.

When it was time for me to find another catch dog I was looking for one. Unfortunately it seems they are getting bigger in the pet market and they were super overpriced. i dont mind paying for a pup at all. But $2500-$4000 for a catchdog pup is more for this old boy to cough up.

Glad you have one doing the deed. Very fine looking animal and hopefully he has a long career.

Feed Purina high pro. Have for years. Bulldog cycles like clockwork every 6 months. My Cur dogs (all related)  are yearly at best and very all over the place at what time of year.
39  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Purina High Protein Dog Chow on: May 02, 2022, 01:43:42 pm
I feed the purina pro plan and have for years. It's costly but comparable to the others. And you can join the pro club and get swag and money back the more you buy. Like others said you will never see the difference unless hunting hard.
