That's a sad deal catch... My buddies was a different kind of thing. The ones I was close to got out all together, and the others I knew only through the guys that got out. But I have seen the competition side of things that your talking about. I've seen guys just about fist fight over who's dogs got to the bay first, senseless pride, how could one know. I guess with GPS you can tell, but we all ran telemetry.
Maybe we can hook-up sometime and chase one down, I do appreciate the invite, and if I get some places around here or between us I'll return the hospitality. Thanks!

Thanks catch n tie!
All nighters are fine by me. Do you ever make your way down around the Houston area? I live about 40 miles North of Houston, but dont mind traveling a little if it'll get me on some pork. My dogs are young, and only been hunting a couple times, I know one of my gyps will honor a bay, and has found one on her own once, but she didnt stick with it. I figure they will hang pretty close til they understand why they are out there. I have a male and female BMC and a male APB, they look like family pets as much as they lay up though. I've been on many hunts with friends, but as soon as I got some pups and started setting up, they quit on me. I've just been letting them play in a bay pen once in a while. I've got my own transportation, gear and rope; just no where to put it yet. I know a lot of folks aint hog doggin right now cus its deer season. I hunt white tail too, but I'd much rather be out in the briers grabbing a wild beast. AINT NOTHING LIKE IT!!!

That's good info Levi, thanks, but most people i've talked to have a bad taste about hog hunters, i.e. lease managers and property owners. I can understand why, cuz I've known some that have no respect for people and their property, throwing trash everywhere and cutting fences wont get you far, and when one does it; it ruins it for all the good folks.
Heck, I'm not a big time hog hunter. Just got a few pups, all around a year old, but I'm ready to start trying to train them. I've got a small bay pen but dont wanna put em in there to much; I've heard it can ruin them.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Where to hunt???

How do you get properties to hunt? I know not everyone here has enough money to buy property to hog dog on... So this question is aimed at the everday average po-boy, that loves to hog hunt.
I've asked some people on ETHDs if I could tag along, but no ones offered to let me in, not that its a big deal, but everyone "outside" of the hog hunting life strongly disapproves of hog dogging.
So my question is..... How do you get lined up with LEGAL land to hunt??? I stress legal because I use to hunt with some ol' boys that knew no boundries, a fence meant, "get the cutters".
Thanks for any feedback!

Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.
Where's a Thomas Jefferson when you need him??? I keep hoping Ted Nugent will run for President...

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Training tips needed
|
on: March 07, 2010, 09:48:34 pm

I'm new to hog doggin and would appreciate any training tips. I have this BMC/walker gyp that seems to be doing it all on her own, as far as baying, but I have three others that just stand there and watch with occasional barks. I'm thinking of getting a shoat or something but dont want my dogs dependent on pigs in a pen and dont want to throw too big of a hog in there with them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

HEY YALL! New here and like what I see. I feel I've walked into a hog dog encyclopedia. I've had various questions from time to time regarding heath, training, breeding, and purchasing hunting products with few resources to get honest field tested opinions or trial and error testimonies. I've spent a couple of hours on here and now feel I have accredited resources to answers some of those questions. Kudos to the creators and all you veterans that participate and broaden the knowledge of us rookies...

I am in need of tracking system/catch dog and cur dog vests/cut collars/ really anything associated with hog dog hunting will be considered. Gun shoots great and packs a punch. The gun is in excellent condition with minimal scratches. Comes with a gun case and what shells I have for it. Just call or text me 281-806-9631 for any details or offers. I can send a pic to your phone or email address, but it will not let me attach any for some reason.
