Good hunt and well bred hunting dogs…
63  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / 5/8 kemmer Mt Cur pups on: December 09, 2022, 10:21:54 am
I have a few Mt cur x plott pups to trade for a bag black bag Valu-Pak dog food for each pup or $50.00…
These pups are really nice and have plenty of potential to make excellent hog dogs…
I am pleased with the ten pups and I have had a hard time deciding which to keep…I will keep 6 on account I am low on strike dogs…

Please call or text for more information and pictures…the female is a buckskin with a reddish tint…
The male is a goldish yellow…both are built nicely and they are slick coated and well socialized…they will be 8 weeks old on December 18th and can be picked up now…
The Plott side is Pocahontas bred and pups will have 2/8th Pocahontas…

Thanks for reading…

Call or text me at 979-239-8515…
Please leave a message or text…I usually won’t answer my phone on account I get too many junk sales calls…

T-dog, that’s a good idea…a treble hook with the barbs grounded off…
Most of the places we hunt do not allow pistols but we can carry and use one shotgun…

About a month ago before the rains came I was heading towards the dogs while on a hunt…I came up to a crossing and in the canal next to the culvert was a 12 ft gator…one of my buddies dogs came up and was drinking water next to this gator…with all the whooping and hollering the dog comes out and the gator never moves…I am thinking the upper 50 degree night immobilized the gator…it got me to thinking I should start carrying one of my pistols  in my 4 wheeler pack and only use it in emergencies…if needed I can show my license to carry to the game warden and ask for forgiveness…not for using to kill gators but to just scare them off…

A big toothy boar in the cold water on a cold day will probably get some lead poison if the opportunity arises…

Excellent dog work and story…here lately the weather has been perfect for hog hunting…but I dread hogs caught in stock tanks and rivers this time of the year…
66  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Decent Boar on: November 14, 2022, 01:09:00 pm
Turned to be a good hunt…that boar looks like he’s been around the block a few years…
Sunday morning was a perfect morning to hunt…I had things needed doing for folks in need so I missed out on a good hunt…my hunting partner caught 3 nice hogs without me…
67  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: OL'GRIP MY CATCHDOG on: November 03, 2022, 09:14:02 pm
On this last round of breeding ,, I went outside to a granddaughter of my line off of another male dog and then to one of our males ,, but the gyp had 4 males and 4 females so hopefully they got the sense we need,,  The male dog we had to go out too has got what it takes so all around should be good..

Sounds like an excellent plan…I think that is one of the best ways to freshen up the bloodline without going out too far from what you have already developed…

That’s a good looking dog…what is the breeding?
69  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Doesn’t look good. on: October 26, 2022, 07:15:34 pm
It is probably best to cut the leg off but in some cases not necessary…I had a Welsch Terrier many years ago that got run over by a car…the leg needed to come off and he was a go getting little rascal without it…about as fierce a 20 pound dog could be…

My friend had his Plott ham stringed, doctoring did help and he chose not to have the leg cut off…the dog wasn’t as fast or as quick after the injury but he was a good hog dog…not being as agile eventually got him killed…

Good hog and beautiful kids…

Looks like a dog was working pretty hard on the back end of that hog…

Austin…on what you said about when two dogs or pups are having a squabble…if you correct one the other will take it as you are helping to gang up…the correction needs to be for both…
75  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Heat Cycle’s on: September 24, 2022, 12:14:19 pm
I do like a pup and dog that is self assured and dominant but in a way that does not start trouble or is looking for an excuse to start a fight…it is a dog that minds it’s own business but can kick but when needed…I can not fault a dog that will defend itself or even tries to severely attack once riled up from being attacked…I expect that response from a good dog…
76  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Heat Cycle’s on: September 24, 2022, 12:04:17 pm
Austin…your posts are always interesting and I enjoy reading them…

I don’t mind a little skirmish among pups but not all out war to discover pecking order…instead I focus on casual corrections at feeding time and when other opportunities arise…I’ll feed 5 week to 8 week puppies a raw hog head first thing before feeding and I won’t allow any fighting and praise when they focus on the task at hand…

Pups…I will never pick a dominant pup that wants to show he is the boss and then constantly reminds the other pups that he or she is the boss…and like you said they tend to carry that trait in the field and in the breeding pen…I have seen pups that stood back away from aggression and appeared to be meek yet were almost like bulldogs on a hog and the more dominant dogs displaying more caution…I’ve seen that more than a few times…

On the two females…both are aggressive on a hog and both hunt really well…but the one I like is far better in appearance, a better coat and put together like I like them…she can jump pretty high and is quicker than her sibling…she can crawl out of a 6 ft. High kennel and then jump out…took a while to finally get her contained…

I bred her sister on account I am running low on good dogs and I know both will produce well…
The one I’m breeding is put together well but is smaller yet fairly thick and compact…

When Storm comes in heat I will breed her and will keep 3 or 4 pups from that litter…
I would like to get a few as good as that Ladner dog you talk about…once upon a time I had quite a few of those type of hunting dogs…

Awesome looking knives…
78  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Vaccination Schedule on: September 18, 2022, 01:59:48 pm
About 4 or 5 years ago I lost an excellent quality pit bull pup at 10 months of age…a beautiful red 80 pound pup, lost him to parvovirus…when I bought him as a little pup he had received two 5 in one puppy shots…I asked my wife to pick up a 10 in one shot and she came home with a 9 in one shot…
I opted to give that vaccine to my wife’s Westie, instead thinking I would get a 10 in one for the red pup…long story short I totally forgot and he got Parvo…the veterinarian couldn’t save him on account they didn’t have the IV to hook him up…
The vet did say that Pitbull type dogs are a breed that are vulnerable to Parvovirus…in hindsight if I had given my pit pup the 9 way he would probably be here with me right now…

The feed store owner was and is hard headed…he said save your money and get the 9 way instead of the 10 way vaccine…he says Caronavirus has been eradicated…so I use a different feed store now that works with me on most anything…I use the 10 way no matter what…

My dogs stay consistently worm free on account they are on concrete and I clean up and wash down every day…might miss a day once in a while but not often..

This is what I do…I give the gyp her vaccines as an 8 week old pup and again at 12 weeks…both 10 ways…and that will be it for the life of the gyp, as it is the same protocol for all my dogs…no issues with this schedule…

If it is a litter that needs vaccines I order through Jeffers…

Worming…I keep a close eye on feeding amount, overall appearance and stool firmness on all my dogs…

I give heartworm preventative between 2 an 3 months intervals and give a heavy dose…my thinking on this is simple and based on this logic…from the time a dog gets infected until the heart worm reaches maturity is 6 months…so giving a heavy dose it will kill any larvae for at least 1 to two months maybe longer…so on the next dose the larvae can not be but one month old when they get hit with another big dose…been working for me as far back as I remember…
This dosing is probably helping keeping the intestinal worms under control but on that logic it would be pure speculation…
